Send it! That's the best thing I've read all day. Glad no serious damage was done.
Yesterday I installed some (free) skid plates off a ZR2. These cover the oil pan, steering rack and some of the transfer case. I need to get the front skid now but for the money I'll just buy an...
Well done! Thanks for the adventure. :)
Those puddles are no joke. If you haven't seen it this is well worth the time. Just have to get through the first 3min and then the fun begins. Tyler's truck ends up ok in the long run.
Haha that was a pretty awesome bike. It's still my favorite color scheme. It was my fiance's bike. She smashed a lot of trails on that thing! Now she's rockin a DVO Emerald dual crown on her downhill bike (Spesh Demo 8 Carbon).
A pretty cool guy on the Colorado/Canyon forum gave me his ZR2 OEM rear skid (covers steering rack and oil pan) and transfer case skid. The ZR2 rear skid replaces the smaller OEM steering rack skid. Because the ZR2 rear skid doesn't have welded nuts on the plate like the OEM steering rack skid...
I'm sure you've seen this review/test but for those who have not...

Thanks ya'll!
I added a section (in the 1st post) for all of the misc gear I keep in the truck full time and included photos of their storage locations. I'm still working on filling in gaps and I'll be looking at your builds to figure out what I might be missing.
If you're paying for the skids then definitely go with Superskidz or 589. The OEM ZR2 plates are likely to be given away by those who are upgrading. That's how I'm getting mine. If I planned on true rock crawling I wouldn't bother with them.
The OEM ZR2 plates will fit non-ZR2 trucks as well but the front plate needs to be trimmed a little and on 2015-2016 trucks some drilling/tapping is required. They plates are thinner than the Superskids and 589 though.
589 now makes skids and they were the first and only? to offer rear shock skids

GM now offers non-ZR2 skids as well. They are MUCH thicker and robust than the OEM "armor" that comes on our trucks.

You might consider the older 4Runners as well. They are pretty capable rigs, reliable and you can sleep inside without having to buy a bed topper or rack/RTT. Like most Toyotas there is a lot of aftermarket support and OEM parts are easy to find.
