I just got a set of Toyo at3s, and I’m very happy with them. I took them out to Death Valley to test them out, and they were great. Great traction, and great road manners. They are also very quiet on the highway. I’m running 31/10.50/15 on my stock 15x5.5 inch steel wheels.
I was all set to get a set of Milestar Patagonias, but I couldn’t find any in my size. So then I decided to go with the tried and true BFG KO2, but could only find 3. So I ended up with a set of Toyo Open County AT3s and am very happy with them. They performed flawlessly on my recent trip to...
I carry an old Plumb Victory boys axe I bought at a garage sale. I cleaned it, sharpened it, and made a sheath for it. Good steel that holds an edge, and the original wood handle cleaned up nicely, and looks great with some boiled linseed oil rubbed into it. I also have an old Craftsman...
I’ve got a 1985 4Runner, early in the building process. Here’s what it is, and what I’ve done so far.
1985 Toyota 4Runner base model 4x4
22RE, with an automatic transmission
Stock suspension, with Rancho shocks up front and Bilstien shocks in the rear
31x10.50x15 Kumho all terrains
Marlin...
I never noticed that! You would think there would have been more Jeeps out there in the 60’s and 70’s. Here’s a newer book in the same series, It looks like there is a Jeep in front of the Bronco II. But it’s not a Jeep Trails book anymore!
I had been trying to buy this 4 Runner for a couple of years, and finally talked the previous owner out of it. And the truck wasn’t a planned purchase, I got a call from my dad saying he saw it for sale, and I drove It home half an hour later! Right place, right time!
I still have the truck, but I’ve added a “new” vehicle to the stable as well. It’s a 1985 4Runner, and it has all sorts of new fangled things on it like fuel injection and power steering! The 4 Runner is much more comfortable, and will be for longer trips, and the truck will stay closer to home.
The plywood bottom is a it longer than the upright pieces, and it just slides under the seat. The toolbox drawer liner is non slip, and it’s a pretty tight fit under the seat, so it’s pretty stable.
The truck pic was in Occotillo Wells, California in February. Nasty looking clouds, but the storm never caught me! Here’s a picture of last thanksgiving in Death Valley.
My truck had no cup holders either, (or power steering, or working AC) but I made some myself. A piece of pallet board, a small piece of thin plywood, and a piece of toolbox drawer liner, and it fits perfectly in the notch in the seat.
