I think minimalism/necessity isn't a fixed concept that applies the same way to everyone, but rather it depends on the circumstances and conditions one finds themselves in. The more remote/solo/unsupported you go, the more things like spare parts and fluids become a necessity. You might be...
By necessity on more than one front I have to take a very minimalist approach. My rig is very small and compact, as is my budget, so I have to think very carefully what upgrades to make so as not to exceed my vehicle's or my bank account's payload lol
I try to re-purpose existing kit rather...
1999 Honda CR-V, and it's name is Ganbaru.
Ganbaru is a Japanese word describing fierce determination to persevere despite impossible odds - very fitting, I thought, for a little Japanese car that everyone underestimates, and yet it comes out on top (of mountains) time and again!
It works. I think if I decide to go with this setup, I will use some ratchet straps to secure the head end (back seat end) to the anchors in the floor of the cargo area to prevent tipping and put the rear headrest on to keep my pillow from falling.

I would agree with DPR, as long as the stock tires that came on the jeep are some sort of A/T tires, I would venture to say that a Jeep Wrangler is one of the most, if not the most capable off road vehicle you can buy today, and you'd be well equipped to tackle probably 95-99% of off road...
That thing is absolutely sick. I LOVE vintage vehicles (vintage anything, really) . Bravo to you for resurrecting this treasure!
You also deserve a medal for putting up with the continual mechanical disasters of the thing, wow! You must have the patience of Job.
Before I started driving off road, I watched a LOT of instructional and 4x4 fail videos on youtube. I learned a ton, both about what to do and what not to do. I noticed that most of the bad situations were caused by too much right boot.
Definitely the skill and care of the driver is the most...
