Great idea. We did a similar thing a couple of months ago.
My 31 yo son asked us to take him and his wife to Colorado a couple of months ago. We installed a Roofnest tent on top of our Overland trailer and towed it behind our truck camper. Worked great!
If you want to see some very interesting off-road recovery videos look up Matt’s Towing on YouTube.
It’s amazing what this guy does. After watching his videos I ended up buying one of the kinetic recovery straps he uses..
Here’s one example..
I’m replying to this thread because it was mentioned in another one...
While the above comments are interesting I have yet to ever hear of anyone bending their pin...I have used this method on several occasions attaching a 3” strap that had 2” loops sewn into each end without any pin deformity...
So I use the Garmin InReach satellite tracking device when we are remote camping and i want to send the file to some friends.
It asked me if I wanted to format the file in a KML or GPX format and I'm wondering which is best.

There were a total of 7 vehicles...all identically prepared 79 Series Toyota Land Cruisers with caps and rtt’s. We carried 7, 20 liter Jerry cans of diesel in addition to full 130 liter tanks and traversed...
We used the front runner racks on our recent trip across the desert of Namibia.
Each vehicle carried 7, 20 liter fuel cans across some of the roughest terrain i’ve ever driven on and no one had any issues.
Highly reccomend.
The other thing that I have started taking into account is that not everyone needs to carry a high lift jack or maxtrax’s or even camp stoves etc.
If you are going on a true expedition then you need to think like you’re backpacking (one person carries the tent, another the stove etc.)
This...
I just removed the 4 jacks on my pop up camper. They are about 40 pounds each !
Going to Colorado soon for almost a month and it seems like we’re packing everything including the kitchen sink!
