    Old Vehicles.

Here are a couple of examples of GMC pickups with the V-6: 1962 GMC 1/2 ton 1965 GMC 3/4 ton If you pay attention you see them show up from time to time.

    Old Vehicles.

I have seen the 5.0L V6 in pickups. But they are in GMC trucks where GMC was still distinct from Chevrolet. Anymore GMC just represents a trim level.

    Old Vehicles.

The GMC big V-6 starts at 305 ci. I laugh when I hear people who think they have a large V-6 in some modern import.

Alright let's see the cool stuff you got for Christmas.

I got The Varmints a 3D printer. This should push them down the CAD road. Or I should say the modern CAD road. I have been doing Cardboard Aided Design for years, but I understand that is becoming obsolete. I think one of the first projects that will come off the print bed will be a...

Today's Example of Why I Prefer to Do All My Own Work on My Rig

LOL. They mess up before they even get to that point. And then it takes better than fifty "ugga duggas" to get it to the point where they can pretend they tightened it down properly.

The Lighting of the Way for Papa Noel

That is way cool. At this point in life our Christmas traditions heavily revolve around the home, but the at some point we will succeed in kicking The Varmints out and then something like this might make for a fun road trip.

Today's Example of Why I Prefer to Do All My Own Work on My Rig

Cross threaded lugs are one of my biggest gripes with shops. I know exactly what happens with them. Some monkey with an impact doesn't bother to take the time to start them by hand and make sure they are threading on correctly. Oh no. He just starts them with his impact and doesn't GARA what...

    Strange noise.. and the fix.

Kids. You gotta love 'em. Otherwise you would kill them. OTOH, I have found their small hands to be useful on a few car repairs.

The trick is to bring your own Starbucks cup, but fill it with something better.

    Your one "must have"

Patrick F. McManus. He is a family camping tradition. If we are camping then McManus comes along. Come bedtime it is my job to pick and read one of his stories. I think the rest of the family most enjoys watching me struggle to read aloud as I nearly die laughing. Of course I have to hide...

Overlanding in a Trabant through Africa

I remember Trabants. Those things made Yugos look good. IIRC cotton seeds were a substantial component of the body. I guess it just goes to show, it doesn't matter what you drive.

Most important, what do you drink while you sit out there in the cold? Certainly you need something to warm you up.

    15” wheels

As has already been stated, forged aluminum is nice. Sadly, it is not the standard for aluminum wheels. My preferences, in order, are (1) forged aluminum, (2) steel, (3) cast aluminum. At least those would be my choices for my Jeep. If drag racing, then Magnesium Halibrands would take first...

    Axles

Note that an MJ Dana 44 is not a bolt in. It is the right width, but the MJs had the spring perches on the opposite side from the XJs. Welding in new perches is not a huge deal, but it does keep it from being a bolt in. Unless perhaps you are going for a lowrider package.

    Axles

Was it a high pinion or low pinion axle? CAD axles, from '91 and earlier, were high pinion. 2000 and 2001 XJs were low pinion. They had to be in order to clear the pre-cats. A low pinion CAD would be a unicorn. I would be curious as to the option package that would include that. It would...

Today's Example of Why I Prefer to Do All My Own Work on My Rig

A couple of years ago I had a shop tear into my front axle in pursuit of a noise that I couldn't track down myself. They did indeed find it, all the way in the center of my ARB carrier. And the only way to find it was to tear the carrier down. It didn't show at all on the axle. This is...

Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL Registry

I hate to tell you this, but my 8.1L 2002 doesn't have enough off the line power either. These things are just heavy.
