What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Swapped out my camshaft position solenoid this morning, and cleaned the throttle body. Butt-dyno says it's definitely a bit smoother at idle, and definitely smoother on acceleration now.

SW Idaho - Where to go?

You can also head out into the blm land in the Owyhees. There's probably 1000's of miles of trails out there. I've been up there several times, and it's loads of fun. Lots to explore.

    Fun in our Isuzu DMax

I appreciate the details! I have a rather odd sized stove, and will probably have to build something that works. I really liked the layout of yours, and may mimic it while adjusting the size to match my stove.

    Fun in our Isuzu DMax

I really wish we could get the d-max in the states. I would buy one in a heartbeat! Sweet rig! I especially like the kitchen box setup. Any chance you could elaborate on that one a bit?

US Northwest Better late than never. IDBDR section 8 reconnaissance.

I wish. With the wife being sick, there's no way I'd leave her with the kid by herself today. And the kid is a bit of a handful for me to deal with on my own on a trip like this. I also just realized Sandpoint is in Northern Idaho, which is about an 8 hour drive from me, so I'd have had to...

Lol. I've already gotten it stuck once. I'm working on saving up to get a couple more inches of clearance.

I think I may have email notifications turned off? I'd be happy to give you my cell number though. Also, define "high clearance".... Driving a stock 04 colorado z71 with full skids that I'm not afraid to use. Just saying

    Owyhee canyonlands byway, Idaho

I'd recommend using Google earth and Gaia to map out your route. Then precache the maps on your phone so you know where you're going. @GHCOE has a much better sense of the owyhees than I do, as I've only ventured out there a few times (and those were tagging along with him anyways).

Aww man, I wish this was a different weekend. I would love to be able to make this. Next time!

Starting from scratch at 200k miles. Setup for failure?

This is sound advice right here. Another tip that was given to me when I got started was to use the vehicle as it came, and find out what it can do. You'd be surprised at the terrain a stock truck can handle these days. Once you find out what the weaknesses are, that's your starting point for...

    Overland Basic

Welcome from Caldwell, ID! As another chevy owner, the only two tips I can really give is to keep that 4l60e as cool as you can, and if you have a torsion bar suspension in the front, don't crank it too far, or you'll eat cv's like there's no tomorrow.

Camping with known Medical Conditions how do you prevent becoming a casualty, Diabetes, Sleep Apnea and Cholesterol

I have type 2 and apnea as well. For the diabetes, I try to stick with high protein, low carb foods while camping. Makes it simple enough. As far as the cpap, you could pick up a so called "solar generator" and a 12v adapter for your cpap. You may not need to charge the battery pack at all...

    Gaia GPS versus Onx maps

I have both Gaia and OnX. The biggest difference is there's currently no way to import GPX files into OnX, nor is there any way to access it outside of your smart device. I know for a fact that they are working on both of these features. I mentioned in a review I posted to the play store that I...

Gas Lantern or Battery powered Lantern?

This is exactly what I do. I carry a 20lb propane tank on trips right now. I use a propane tower to power my stove off the tank, and screw the latern on top of the tower. I use the propane latern because it's what I have, and it works well, nut if it ever breaks, I'll probably replace it with an...

    Has overlanding become elitist ?

This right here. This is exactly what I'm doing with my 04 Colorado. Stock rear auto locker (which works surprisingly well). I'm planning on a 2" shackle and 2" torsion crank with a differential drop and ball joint flip, and that's it. That should give me about 10" of clearance, and maybe if I'm...

    Has overlanding become elitist ?

I hear ya, and at times, I may agree with you. Personally, I'm pretty new to this whole "overlanding" thing myself. But, you don't necessarily need to spend a ton of money to do it. The first trip I went on was 4 days into the Oregon desert, using a bone stock 04 colorado and camping gear I had...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Replacing the driver's side differential seal in my 04 colorado. I'm also replacing the cv's on both sides, but will be doing the other side tomorrow.

    SW Idaho Overlanding

Sorry, I missed George's comments on the radios. I've got a CB and a handheld 8w UHF/VHF wired into the truck with an external antenna. While crossing the Alvord desert last year, the CB's didn't have enough power to reach to the other side, so I lost contact with the rest of the group while me...

    SW Idaho Overlanding

Haha, oh, I'm not worried about getting stuck. There were plenty of rigs to pull me out. We're less of a club, and more of just a group of people that crash George's trips, cause he's dumb enough to tell us when and where we can find him. LOL
