    2019 Ranger Build Thread

Ha! No way. I can't justify spending that kind of money on something that's likely to get scratches and beaten up on the trails. I drive an 04 z71 Crew Cab with the 3.5l inline 5.

    2019 Ranger Build Thread

My coworker just put a 2" lift and Falken 33's on his ranger last month. Good looking setup. But, now I can't stop thinking about lifting my colorado sooner rather than later.

US Northwest Boise / Treasure Valley Meetup

We have neither a date, or a route. We only briefly talked about it last Friday at the meetup. I'm gonna text Matt, and see if we can get the ball rolling.

Reichling and I talked about trying to get something scheduled for next month.

US Northwest Boise / Treasure Valley Meetup

I think it would be cool to do it once a month. There were supposed to be several of us that went, but only myself and Reichling showed up.

US Northwest Boise / Treasure Valley Meetup

I think towards the end of the month would work well. Maybe not quite Halloween as I'm sure there are parties that people want to attend. Everything I've done so far has been south, into the owyhees. I'd love to head north, or east, but am not familiar enough with the area. Should we start a...

Nice meeting you tonight Matt! What do you think about trying to get a trail run going for October?

I'll be there! Looking forward to meeting some new folks and checking out some rigs.

    Android GPS Radio headunit

I have an eonon unit in my colorado, and it's not terrible. The music distorts at high volumes, and if I run a GPS program for too long, it hard resets. I plan on switching to a joying unit in the future (they're supposedly the best overall). But overall, I think it's a really cool unit, and...

Help me understand auxiliary electrical systems...

Yeah, I only want to do this once, so properly protecting the wiring is something I want to take the time to do right the first time.

Both very good points. I'm going to try a DC battery pack specifically for my cpap. I've already got it in my shopping cart, so we'll see how that goes. As far as protecting wires, this is great advise. I ran my uhf antenna cable under the carpet, and used gaff tape to tape it down. It also...

US Northwest Looking for a S/W Idaho (Boise area) meet and greet

Welcome! I myself live in Caldwell. I totally get not wanting to go it alone. It's definitely scary. If you ever want to head out, and would like some company, let me know. I just need at least a week notice. My wife doesn't like having things like that sprung on her last minute. This is a...

Out of curiosity, why are you running it this way? Let's say you've got a fridge on that secondary system. Does that mean unless the ignition is on, there's no power running to the fridge?

Help me understand auxiliary electrical systems...

I do in fact have a 100 amp alternator, currently. I've found a manufacturer that makes them all the way up to 240 amps. That's probably overkill for my needs. 200 is probably overkill as well, but I don't want to have to buy a third alternator if I decide to add a second battery. I 100% agree...

Not your typical Overland Vehicle (pics)

HAHA. I wouldn't go as far as to say many should follow my example. ;) Most of the mods to my truck are aimed at addressing the design weaknesses from chevy. For example: Weak engine cooling system - When running the A/C in the summer, the truck likes to get HOT. Like...220+ hot. I'm not...

Not your typical Overland Vehicle (pics)

I plan on it. But, at the same time, I've already gotten stuck once (due to not having enough clearance), beat and banged on the frame going over some whoops, and had a large rock get lodged uncomfortably close to my transfer case (I bought the skid plates shortly after that). In the meantime...

Help me understand auxiliary electrical systems...

I have an 04, so in my case, I can find a higher output alternator (up to 240 amps). This is an excellent, and easy to understand explanation of how it works. Thank you for that. I'll probably just go with a 200amp alternator then, without doing the math. I've not really decided whether I...

Here's mine! 04 Colorado. She's mostly stock, as I try and address a few of the weak points with this particular truck. What's not a weak point is that this thing is a little mountain goat. :D I've added some skid plates, radios, and that's it so far. Mods coming up next year are switching...

OK, so, fat positive wire coming directly to the fuse block off the battery. Seems relatively simple. I'm thinking relays will be the way to go for me. I can then toggle them using switches in the cab, to control the relays. I guess I just need to map everything out, and come up with a...

Help me understand auxiliary electrical systems...

So, in my quest to build my colorado into an off the grid expedition rig, I've been on a mission to gather at least a rudimentary understanding of vehicular electrical systems. I know that drawing a map and planning things out is key to a successful build. Eventual accessories include a...
