    Let's Talk Cast Iron

I use the canola oil. Cleaning follows closely to your method, only after waste is out, I scrub it with coarse sea salt and rinse. I dry with a hand towel, and then coat with canola oil. Depending on how many times I've done that, I give it an hour baking.

    Adventuring With Your Dog/s

You might already know this, but since you were asking for training tips, I'll go out on a limb. So stop me if you've heard it... You may want TWO 'comet's commands. One is the normal come, and another for like big time, all call, all return. Super super treat for the second one. That's the...

    Adventuring With Your Dog/s

Yes. With my Beagle, the key was teaching 'heel' first. Then, whenever he starts getting ahead of you too much, stop and call 'heel.' To train for heel, keep a treat wedged in the web between your index and thumb. Show the dog you have it. Call heel and bring it in a wide arc down to the outside...

    Adventuring With Your Dog/s

I've wrapped his leash through the hitch D ring or the tow hooks, and then back through it's own loop and to his harness, but obviously only for short term. Long term he can chew through the leash, and I dont like leaving him connected to the truck except when I'm loading or unloading it, as I...

^^^ that's great to connect to the Kurgo Tru Fit harness and hook them to the seatbelt. The swivel feature really helps to keep the seatbelt and or tether from getting all twisted and short or tight. I'm sure the tether could be cut off and replaced with whatever cord or cable you like if you...

    Adventuring With Your Dog/s

My Beagle is only 27 pounds, but theres not an ounce of fat on him, and he is all hunt. For a 27 pound dog, he can pull on the leash like a 50 pound dog. Add to that the rapid direction changes based on where his noe brings him, and it can be very difficult to keep him in check. I've taught him...

    Adventuring With Your Dog/s

My Beagle comes from hunt stock, not pet stock. There is no way I can ever have him off leash unless I'm willing to see him later, much later, at his own pleasure. I have a harness for him (Kurgo TruFit, best on the market) and a seat cover for the bench seat in back of the truck. He handles...

    Let's Talk Cast Iron

When I bake mine, after oiling with a paper towel or lint-free cloth, I bake in the oven at 350 or 400 for an hour, then let cool, and repeat. But I alternate baking right side up, then upside down. Dont know if that's proper or not. A slightly thicker layer of oil on the cooking surface, and it...

    Let's Talk Cast Iron

As I understand it, cast iron of the past was made with mich more smoothed surfaces than the Lodge version, which is a bit more rough. With at least one of my Lodge pans, I sanded the cooking surface smoothe before the oil and bake sessions, and as a result, it is indeed my most non-stick Lodge...

    Silverado at the svra

Ah. It's the 3.5 inch list and 35 inch tires! I just leveled up over the summer with Bilstein 5100's. Got snows on for the winter and want to get 33's in the spring. Even after that, I dont think I could quite make that step climb at the top, that you did. Cool everyone celebrated you up there...

Ha ha. My mother used to save the bacon grease in an old coffee can, and alternate with crisco

    Let's Talk Cast Iron

I admit I have not had crisco in my house since I moved out back in 1990-91. I MAY rethink that, just for the pans. I have been using canola oil and baking the pans for an hour, cool, bake again.

My mother used Crisco for that and baking as well

Pics? How was it when you started? Rough surface like Lodge? Too much oil perhaps? I sanded Lodge first to get a smoother surface inside.

Up Through E.Quebec to Labrador, Alantic Coast, back through Maine

Wow. I have to admit, I have seen the opposite in Quebec. I mean, yes, brush up on your French, but I have asked (in English) a police officer in Quebec for directions and had him ignore me, put his nose up and drive away. I think if you at least know a little bit of French and try to...

    2006 GMC Sierra aka “granopy”

Yeah, those Canadian trucks are a real problem here, too. They often look gorgeous but the frames rust is atrocious! ZJ, best Jeep! I like that Tahoe and the old Suburban
