2006 Land Rover Freelander - Camper Build

Cool, the same I hear about Freelander's all the time but I have never seen one kitted out. I suspect they suffer the same sort of bias as R50 Pathfinders, they are thought of as too much car not enough truck. But my old R50 took me many 10's of thousands of KM off road. Here is a little...

Three Things I Hate About My Roof Top Tent

I would add to this one of the reasons I went the Tepui Ayer was the light weight, although it is a true 2 person tent as a trade off. At just under 100lbs it suited what I wanted on top of my Disco. Many other 2/ 2-3 persons RTT break 150 and some the hard tops are closer to 200. And for me...

Three Things I Hate About My Roof Top Tent

It was a good video, nice clear expression of the issues you found. Interesting, I can see some possible issues with instability on significant off camber, but that is only a 100 lb tent, you should be able compensate. Of course your jeep is pretty light so it maybe it is not a ideal setup if...

What do you air down to?

Pacific Northwest 20 should be good, but your tire and vehicle weight play into that. On my Discovery II at 5500lbs (loaded), with Cooper St Maxx barely bulge at 20 psi, down from 38. Different tires will flex better or worse. The puncture kit is nice, but sidewalls tend to get torn so have...

    Camping in WY/MT grizzly country

A couple of big things : As noted above check the local information and if possible the fish & game websites, they will generally indicate if an area has a problem bear or bears. Before camping check for bear sign, large animal trails or bear food sources if any are obvious you may want to move...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

This really sums it up perfectly, there are vast area's you can get to everywhere without lockers, large lifts, crazy big tires etc.

    Coffee Set Ups

@JackA Hand grinding is not all that much work. I have a little GSI collapsible I use. It takes maybe 5 minutes start to finish to grind enough coffee for a cup. Longer if I wanted to make a pot but not much. I use my Jet boil and either a coffee cup top drip or French press depending on time.

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

@leeloo It is hard to explain just how big and empty of most western, northern Canada is. People look at maps but that does not really explain it. It takes about 8 hours to go from Vancouver to Alberta border on the hi-way averaging 100km/hour (785 KM) and there are long empty stretches. Once...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Today was a perfect Land Rover day : Start the truck all kinds of warning lights on : Flashing Manual /Sport lights E-brake, Hill Descent and ABS Turn the Disco off, turn the Disco back on less Lights ! Flashing Manual /Sport lights - now off - this usually low battery E-brake, Hill Descent...

The most spectacular picture you've ever taken...

This one was just luck, after 4 days of offroading I was on the drive home stopped to stretch and shot this without checking the camera.

    Blaeberry Valley in Golden

Not lately but I am on the coast, the big problem is a lot of logging companies are starting to gate access. This is partly for safety and partly to prevent damage. With new access, the best way is to just go. There are lots of area around there to explore, even if you can not get access to...

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

@leeloo I suspect that is an issue of location, the 30-50 mile thing. In the picture above I was about 200km from the nearest town, with another 150-175 to go, which left me with around 100km buffer. I am regularly that far from the nearest town. But even here in BC it can be an issue, if you...

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

I should have noted when I see a bear I grab my camera 1st, even when they are on the deck, I like bears. This guy just kept the tree between me and him as I passed, it was actually pretty funny

    Overlanding with "stock" 4X4

Nothing wrong with stock, my old R50 pathfinder traveled a lot of off road miles with pretty much a 1 inch lift and nothing else, other than Toyota rims. About day 3 of 7 day trip through south western BC. That truck just kept going, but at 300,00Km (60 thousand by me) the suspension was shot...

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

@GrundleJuice K31's are nice rifles but a wee bit big to lug about as you noted. Well for bears get a big can of bear spray and possibly a bear banger, those will be more effective than a pistol. The trick with bear banger its it has to land in front of the bear, so the bear runs away from it...

Who carrys a firearm with them while camping?

@GrundleJuice A handgun is generally not recommended for any use against larger predator's, regardless of caliber. For bear in in BC I carry rifled slugs for my 12 gauge, but I have single ball rubber slug as my 1st round. The rubber round has been found work well against bluff charges...

Let's see those rigs in action

Not many of my Disco in action I am the tail end guy on most trips, or running solo. But here is one from last fall : And the sort of thing our club president finds for us to do : I will note the ground guide did an outstanding job, Martin the driver of the Disco 1 just missed a direction...
