@USStrongman yea it is pretty tough the only rack I have seen that high for those trucks is the Baja rack. Maybe they upgraded it, stock racks have notoriously low weight ratings.
Our group trip last month, 14 odd Land Rovers and some interesting terrain. This a highlight reel, the only damage was a couple of mud flaps and my rear right rear bumper, bad drop off a rock.
Just to clarify I did not shoot or edit the video and another club member did.
@Kaiju_Runner
Dynamic load is significantly less than static load, it is generally right around 100lbs for a stock roof rack. Dynamic is your load when vehicle is in motion, less of an issue at 10 -15 miles hour way more of an issue at highway speeds. Don't assume find out.
About 120 for...
@rho you pretty much covered it,
There is a post further down about lights I check those as part of it and tires check for slashes, bubbles or other damage
During trip the if multiple days (I carry a big canvas tarp to lay on):
Check all fluids that I can visually or via dip stick
Air...
The heater is great but, Butane no so much in the PNW, once it gets cold and damp it is less effective. Even a t -1 or 2 C butane often will not work.
I got a series of adaptors that let me Butane, ISO Butane or propane.
You need 3 adaptors
Propane tank
Butane for the inside of the...
I have used a small cooler with bottle of hot water in it. But I carry a 2.5 gallon Scepter style water can that has never frozen. If I was to spend several days at sub zero it might be an issue but a bottle of hot water dropped in or a hot towel wrapped around a couple times day would keep...
Just make sure you do not seal up the tent, try to leave a window partly open on each side for air flow. Otherwise you will have to deal with condensation.
Propane and naptha (white gas) are fine at those temps but butane can be iffy. If you use a butane get a chemical hand warmer and...
@Lanlubber mine had Aux driving lights some time in the past, I think LR ones so I have this switch. I would think the one on the left side would work just as well
I will add 2 things, from a solo travel point of view
Leave a complete trip plan with someone you trust, to make nessacary the calls if you do not show up on time . Check in when you can with an updated location, I run APRS via my VHF which is great when it can hit the right kind of repeater...
Finally got around to adding some driving lights to the Disco, used a license plate light mount bracket and ran supports back to the metal behind the grill. 2 x 3 watt LED floods and a 90 watt spotlight/flood combo and yes the pods are intentionally angled.
Best off all it is all hooked up to...
@Roger 2486 I did not buy one of CVT's tents but I called them to get to inquire about mounting hardware. The salesman spent 30 minutes with me, on the phone to determine I was getting the correct mounts and to try and get me a 1/2 set which is all I needed. Their web site did not allow for...
I will add to the Tepui durability mine is an ex rental 1.5 years other than the rubbing from the ladder when it is in the stored position it is basically as new.
@the_rockies good on you for dealing with it, we have those idiots up here too. They start a fire during a ban and if anyone that might be forestry shows up they run. I spent a couple of hours helping a fire marshal put out a big "campfire" a few years back.
@RJ Howell my note on condensation was my experience running in the back of my Disco, no one inside just taking the chill out before calling it a night about 45 minutes of run time. Sun roofs and window cracked, now it was a damp October day by a lake. But it was intended as more of a heads...
