    Roof Top Tent (RTT) Questions

Weight does matter as a well has how many are sleeping in the tent, I have a Tepui Ayer 2 man and it is all of 95 lbs some the bigger tents getup 130-150 as mentioned. There is also the issue of size a hard shell will use your entire roof for the most part. Here is an image of the 3 options...

Let's see those rigs in action

I posted this in Land Rover section but it really should be here. out last week with our local Land Rover group (Roverlander's of BC). A Lightwieght then my pretty basic Disco. Apparently there is a good sized divot at .28 where my passenger tire is, may have caused the Pathfinder roll over...

    Buying a Vehicle for Overlanding

@Sailmike yes newer vehicles have less problems but they are heavily "computerized" which can leave you stranded or in "limp Mode" just because a computer or sensor failed. And most of them require manufacturer specific code readers to determine the nature of the fault, not an issue in major...

    Buying a Vehicle for Overlanding

@Sailmike military surplus is a literal roll of the dice, those trucks are run hard really hard. You can get some nice ones but most need a lot of work.

    Buying a Vehicle for Overlanding

@MMc size is not that much of an issue, nor are parts if his plan is Canada & the US. I would recommend just a good solid pickup and camper. To my mind one of the Alaskan Style are ideal, Alaskan Campers they keep the roof line low

    Overland by minivan

2 excellent replies here. Just to add be willing to get out, walk and look at the road. If in doubt turn around, as @Billiebob said it is about the experience not the destination.

    Buying a Vehicle for Overlanding

@Sailmike were you are matters for these discussions US, Canada or other. Costs are radically different, generally higher, in Canada as vs to the US. Next how serious are you about the world, and you need to have a very serious think about that. What will work wonderfully in the US and Canada...

CA West Canada Vancouver, Boston Bar, Lytton, Gold Bridge and home

Nothing epic here, I just need to get out having finished 3 weeks of fixing the house sewer line. Generally heading: East Harrison to Boston Bar Boston Bar to Lytton following the power line trail - overnighting a Kwoiek Lake Lytton to Gold bridge along a FSR that follows the river Gold...

    What is it with axes?

@slomatt up here in BC on the coast 18 to 24 inch rounds are pretty commonly found, cedar if you find it will split with an axe with almost zero effort. I use my Fisker spitting axe on the big stuff, that get's it manageable then the regular axe to get it smaller. 1 good sized round will keep...

    Finding Trails

Mapbooks, travel guides etc. Here in BC I use Backroad Map Books, they cover the province in a number of books sections and each book has sections on a variety of activities. fishing hunting, wildlife backroads etc. Those sections have reference to specific map pages and grid with in the map...

    Land Rover Registry

@Lanlubber well 2000's had the CDL (center locking Diff) but it was not connected to a shifter (brilliant eh). You can retro fit a shifter. And you want to exercise the low range - the shift cable tends to get really hard to use if you do not. Just find a quiet nice piece of road Stop or...
