CLR works well if you have rust to remove. I painted my drum with Rustoleum spray on truck bed liner to give the syn line a little more bite on the first layer.
Yesterday I installed a rebuilt front driveshaft and found the source of an exhaust leak. It's from the bottom side of the downpipe flange, so it'll have to come off to get welded. It could probably be done while on the truck but upside down welding near the one of the nuts isn't the best idea.
Count me in!
I'm in SF (where Candlestick used to be). I've been going to Bald Mtn. for years, only it's been during February for a snow run ;)
The Gilroy WM works for me. I've been away from the OB forums for the past month, but did get the email notification about the trip. Any news on...
What's the most important item in your recovery kit?
Experience and my brain.
Seriously, I think there are a lot of people out there who think they know recovery and how to use the gear but in reality, do not. Or, they just buy the cheapest kit they can find and do little to no research on...
How does the winch operate now? Does it go into (and out of) freespool easily? Does the controller have good a connection to run it in both directions?
You can take the end caps off to look at the motor and gears, though I'd suggest getting replacement gaskets as they can tear when opening the...
The heat buildup on a winch drum happens when it is equipped with the brake inside the drum, and you are powering out the line under load. Say lowering someone down a ledge. This should only be done for 20' at a time, and allow of adequate cooling time. Under normal, or even extreme conditions...
I'm not sure if I can make this trip. The truck is getting the transmission replaced, and probably wont' be ready until Wed. It's still packed from OE and Memorial Day camping. The trans went out on the way home last Sunday...
I have an E3 deadline at work this week, and need to see what SWMBO...
Titanium spork - Cleans with a wet paper towel, can eat a steak or a bowl of cereal with it.
Jet Boil - Super fast and easy to boil water in the morning for oatmeal. I usually pack my kitchen the night before leaving camp, so this fits the bill perfectly.
Oz Tent camp chair - Good padding...
Been running with an ARB for 3 years and haven't looked back. Somethings I tried with a traditional cooler have been:
Block ice (frozen 1 gallon jugs) is a really good option. You have usable ice water for a few extra days which is very nice out in the desert. However it takes up a lot of room...
Add me to the list. After OE, I don't have anything planned but need to get something started. Everything has been focused for things in the past month.
Looks like it'll be raining this week in Flagstaff, with the highest chance coming in Tues. & Wed. All of the staff arrived for setup today, bet they're going to have a fun next couple of days!
Keep monitoring the weather, but I'd expect muddy conditions at the lake.
"The special event call sign is temporarily substituted for the call sign shown on the license of the person making the request while the station is transmitting in conjunction with the special operation."
Hearing that callsign means that the transmission is coming from an OE Staff member.
A...
