  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

Weekend bump. The IPF’s sold but I still have the premium lights. 9500 lumens each.

    NJ to UT

OK, you’d be surprised how many think they can do something like that along with the day’s drive from Denver to Moab.

    MA to AZ/UT/CO trip planning

Dispersed camping around Moab is pretty hard to find. The area has been so abused by the crowds, the places I used to camp have long since been closed. But there are many BLM improved camp areas (fees but modest) in the area. As well as the private campgrounds, hotels, etc... If your traveling...

    NJ to UT

Just an FYI, if the Alpine Loop is open by then, that is not something you'll do "on the way" driving from Denver to Moab. The Apline Loop is a pretty full day of driving in its self. As is driving from Denver to Moab on a path that would get you to the trails. Honestly Denver to Moab with...

between Denver and the salt flats

Do you plan to take I-70 to US6 as your route or are you open to "other". As that travel circle is going to drop you in the desert after 4-5 hours out of Denver. Might not be your most desirable spot in August. All comes down to what you like. You may want to look at taking US40 as a slower...

UT, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana in August...

You should probably narrow your travel corridor down a little as those 4 states represent a lot of real estate. Hard to point you any directions without knowing roughly where you'll be.

    Black Bear pass 5/29/2018

I don't fully understand your timeline for driving but between Denver and Moab, just taking the back roads would be an outstanding experience verse I-70. Especially if you've never been west before. Like 285, to 50, then south on 550. Spend a night in Ouray. Then 62 to 145, 141, 90, 46, and...

    Black Bear pass 5/29/2018

Here are the current trail conditions in the San Juans: https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/sanjuan/alerts-notices/?cid=FSBDEV3_002300 Ophir is generally one of the first to open. Black Bear generally gets plowed open in mid July. This was a very light snow year however, so I'm sure it will be...

    OB Approved Chain Saws

No shame on my end. Just tired of overworking my 290 during firewood season. I know the 462 is coming. Might go that direction depending on price and when I can actually pull the trigger. FI would be great but I can't justify a $1900 saw. A grand is really a stretch.

    OB Approved Chain Saws

Figured I'd report back on my Stihl MSA-200 now that I've got a few miles on it. https://www.stihlusa.com/products/chain-saws/battery-saws/msa200cbq/ Unless I'm going out to harvest firewood or fall trees this is now my goto saw. I've had it on a few trail runs now and it has done everything...

    Powertank

I've been running a powertank for over 10 years. No failures, still running all the original components. It works great but for the amount of CO2 I've purchased I could have one hell of a 12v compressor. It is fun however to tap a keg of beer with the powertank.

Electric Winch vs Hi-Lift Winching Kit?

If winching is something you think is in your future buy a winch. Using a hi-lift for that purposes works but sucks IMHO. Especially on a full size rig. I rarely carry to gear to do so, and only as a 4th option. For most, and again just my opinion, a set of Maxxtrax would be a better...

OB Approved Overland Safety: Fire Extinguishers

I've never looked up the storage temp ratings on my Halotron. But after being stored in the truck for years it worked flawlessly when I needed it to. My truck regularly sees high summer temps in the desert and plenty of sub 0°F nights in the mountains. I don't carry a blanket. While it may...

    Element Fire Extinguisher looks awesome!

Can't find anywhere what the mystery fire fighting gas is? But I am also interested. Price is not bad if it delivers as advertised. Edit: here it is: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/3001/3080/files/ElementOperationDescription.pdf?9543567154874779486 CE listed but not UL. Read about that...

    Need some expert advice!

Between those two I'd go with the 4Runner hands down. You did not post any kind of budget. But a 100/200 Series LandCruiser would be my choice based on your defined needs.
