    RTT vs Ground

I'll second being a ground guy. The thought of navigating a ladder at 3 am to find a handy tree is not on my list of things to do. It would probably be safer to fight the bear.

    Hurricane Ida

I live in a hurricane-prone area. I absolutely consider my XJ to be an important part of being prepared for a storm. Since it's not my daily, it pretty much stays loaded. Dealing with an emergency is as simple as making sure it's full of fuel. If we were to evacuate, it is the vehicle we would...

What Tyres Are Recommended for Off-roading (including the trip there on the motorway)

I just sold a Silverado with KO3s on it and bought the Ridgeline, that set had the most mileage on them. They had a little over 30k miles on them and were right at halfway to the wear bars. I wouldn't be surprised to see them go well over 50k miles. The set on my XJ is next in mileage at 20k or...

Old hwy 105 NC trip planning

I drove Old 105 and several other gravel roads last week with my stock Ridgeline on AT tires. Everything I drove was pretty easy gravel roads There are some beautiful views to be seen and some really nice areas to camp. If you are going soon, you might check with the NFS. A lot of the area is a...

Highest Point East of the Mississippi

That is a 1970 Easy Rider. Also, know as a PasseParTout in Canada. I bought it from a gent in Michigan. It needs a little TLC, but should be a fun toy.

Highest Point East of the Mississippi

We were up that way last week for a few days and passed back through yesterday on the way home from Michigan. I took this shot at Waterrock Knob yesterday morning. I sure am missing that cool mountain air today.

Have to get car sticker glue of vehicle??

I just stripped all the vinyl signage off of 3 company vehicles so I could sell them. The best by far are the 3M Eraser Wheel and the 3M Adhesive Remover. Nothing else is even a close second. /thread

    Windshield Pics...

Not my usual windshield. The XJ stayed home this week and we are driving the Ridgeline. Still managed to get a little mud on the tires.

    Harbor Freight Bottle Jack

I have been carrying one of their 12-ton 2 stage stubby jacks for a decade or more. It will get under almost anything and has been trouble-free as long as I've had it. It looks like they don't carry it anymore.

    That is insane.

    Nature Photos

Not exactly Overlanding since I was sitting on my porch, but certainly nature. I was familiarizing myself with a new 28-200 lens for my Sony A7M2. The lens hadn't been out of the box for more than 5 minutes. I was using a hummingbird feeder as a focal point to get used to how the manual focus on...

Recommendations for cheap/simple point 'n shoot cameras?

For a waterproof durable camera that I can carry in my pocket when hiking and swimming, and operate one-handed, I use a Nikon AW120. It shoots very good pictures and video and I don't have to worry about killing it in a sudden rainstorm or river crossing. Mine is 5-6 years old and I think they...

    Do you carry bolt cutters?

That could be a problem! I'm from the deep south. There is zero rust on my XJ so I don't carry a can of PB. I guess I better stop soon and pick one up. :grinning:

    Do you carry bolt cutters?

Are you a FFL dealer or do you have a BATF license? If not, they have to show intent to get a warrant to perform a search. I think you are giving law enforcement more power than they actually have.

    Brake controller?

I used a Prodigy P2 for a lot of years and loved it. If I was to do it again I'd have to look at the Prodigy RF, wireless controller. The ability to easily move it from vehicle to vehicle without having to rewire each one would be a hands-down winner for me.

    Do you carry bolt cutters?

Sort of. Most of those laws are written so that possession of burglary tools while committing a crime is unlawful. You can have it and carry it except when breaking the law. I drive around with just about everything on the list, including lock picks, and massive rings of keys. Since I'm not a...

    Temp to set the fridge

I run my Base Camp at 34. Any lower and things start to freeze.

What is your go too overlanding photography kit/setup? What is in your Camera bag?

I just picked up a Sony A7ii with the 24-70 and a nifty fifty. I'll add a 70-200 to that before long. My last camera that wasn't a point-and-shoot or a cell phone was a Pentax K1000 about 30 years ago. I'm going to have to learn how to drive a real camera again.

    1959 GMC Bus - 4x4 Build

Cool bus. I have a 56 Ford I considered adding 4x4 to but decided it was just too big. My future plan is to drop it on an F53 motorhome chassis.
