Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Very nice design. My concern, and I've been there, is when the rear of the vehicle is in the ditch and the rear access can't be opened. I've been in situations where I designed equipment storage for transport and not access when my jeep is on it's side or doors can't be opened. An example, I...
There are other topics on this, I built my trailer with a removable tongue. I chain the wheels, use the gps tracker plant and the electrical cable is also removable, Ron
I agree with Cort. If you have to have a locker in the front, make it a selectable. Lockers ie; detroits will increase your turning radius, on technical trails this can be a PITA. I have detroits in both ends of my jeep. Ron
I'm running Goodyear MTR's, they are a good combination of an aggressive and all terrain tire. They are a little noisy as they wear, but if you air down to about 12 psi, you can crawl bout anything. All the tires mentioned are a quality tires, some slap at rock's, some better in mud... they...
Another question would be how big of a tire are you wanting to run? We have a rubicon in my offroad club with a 2" budget boost on 31's, that goes almost anywhere he wants. He does have air lockers, but doesn't always use them. His next modification is going to be a flat skid plate, after I...
If you buy a quality suspension system, under normal use/operation you'll only buy one. Not all suspension manufactures are created equal, ie import product reboxers. I've had real good luck with superlift, ome, shyjacker, there are other good manufactures but I just haven't used them. Good...
Are you planning on a top? I built a 416 style trailer, My tail gate is narrower than the pictured one . I also used an inset tail light, I tend to break them on occasion, Ron
I've had good luck with super lift springs, 3 1/2" from summit racing. The last set were labeled made in USA, there were about $60 each when I bought the last ones, Ron
A friend and I drove our jeep, YJ's, to Colorado Springs, CO from Newark, Ohio, and back. I hauled a harbor freight trailer back with a rust free YJ frame on it. Are you still running panard bars on the front and rear? Ron
My tongue is adjustable length and uses a removable pintle hitch, when the pintle is removed the pin lock is reinstalled for a little more anti-theft protection, Ron
When I first started looking for a solution I placed 1" spacers under the hood hinges, this provided an additional gap for the hot air to escape. It did look a little doppy at first, but it was cheaper than spending money on parts that didn't work, Ron
I'd second the gages upgrade. You need to what type of heat source you're chasing, it'll save you a lot of money on equipment you probably don't need. How old is the radiator? Do you run a fan shroud? I'm running a 350 sbc in a 90 jeep wrangler, I don't have an overheating issue. I added...
I would have gone to the junk yard and measured every short bed truck bed in site before I finished the build. The other thing I'd considered would have been a utility bed. To answer your question, to stretch 3", Yes I would. the frame was done when friend gave me a LEER camper shell from a...
I also built my trailer from scratch. The one major thing I'd do was to plan the size and top better. In my situation if I'd gone 3" longer a Tacoma or ranger caps or covers would have fit with no modifications. Looking forward to your build. Ron
