Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Try to have an idea what you want the truck to do when you are done. I would aim for stability and reliability. A lower center of gravity and mods that won't over stress stock components. I'd go with 33's, adequate clearance without excessive load on steering components. Most of the time...
I'd like to thank the forum members that attended the novice ride sponsored by OHIO4x4 trail riders. I'm terrible with names, but there was a couple that traveled 6 hours from PA, one from Columbus, oh, and a man from MI. I'm sorry if I have missed anyone else. Thanks again, Ron
I'll have to check the model number, I installed 2 air lockers in my son's and friends jeep with an ARB compressor, both set up to inflate tires without an air tank, Ron
Be sure to torque the axle nut to spec, this will keep you from trashing your wheel bearing. The rest is pretty straight forward. Torque the lug nuts also, wheels falling off is a bad thing. Good luck, Ron
I'll see what I can find nationally including your area. I would look for a locally established US company. Unfortunately most NAPA parts won't be US made, but for a Toyota it could be OEM. Ron
I'm a member of OHIO4x4 trail riders, we travel to several areas for riding and camping. Most of the trail clean up seems to be from "locals parties". But if we don't do our part we'll lose the access to the trails. Ron
Don't purchase a rebuilt/reman axle shaft. At work we use NAPA, I show them for $85 my cost(I have an account), list for $155, limited life time warranty. But "NEW" after market, compare warranties. I don't deal with O'Rielly's, bad history. Hope this helps, Ron
I gave them as gag gifts last year @ xmas. I also had to use mine once, that or eat my can of beef stew, on a trail ride, with my fingers or a knife. Ron
Congrats on the trailer, It's not one I recognize. It looks like a starting great base, I built my trailer as a utility/offroad trailer. I don't care for things that only do 1 thing. I'm sure someone on here has seen a similar one. Good luck, Ron
I went with the dexter 3500# axle with electric brakes, no E brake, with the bolt pattern matched to my jeep. First reason was to be able to control the 35" tires and the brakes so it wasn't pushing me down a hill. I haven't regretted not having an E brake, yet. Probably will later, Ron
Again I like the design, no ill will intended. But, I didn't start out on my trip saying "I think I'll roll my jeep today". A rock shifted and we were off and rolling, Ron
