    Project: Adventuring Trek

I'll be following this build. The 4x4 club I'm a member of has a "novice" ride twice a year. The last novice ride we had a Subaru in the mix, we were impressed, he only one problem. If you're going to disconnect your stabilizer bar, disconnect both sides. I'll try to find pic's and links. I...

Hi-Lift: How many people NOT running them?

I started carrying mine on the hood, but then I couldn't put my windshield frame down(my favorite way to ride). I used it twice on a trail ride. Then I left it in the shed, till I could have used it, instead of my winch. I have since had an IDEA, yes an idea, that does surprise some of my...

    The Can

That is cool. I would rebuild it original design, either using fiberglass or extendable poles. Ron

K5 Blazer or Gmc for over landing

It's a fine vehicle for off road and camping. I've had a couple of blazers, You should be aware of overall weight, it's not a light vehicle to start with. I run a Quadrajet on my jeep, with problems in certain conditions. Ron

    Locking tools

My question would be removing the tool. If it'll slide out, will it clamp the tool in place. If you fit one side with a small hinge, it may work better. Just my thoughts, Ron

How Much Battery Power do I need

Do you have access to the frig and the tools to measure the power consumption? If I remember correctly, battery discharge rates are measured in amp/hour which is usually posted on the battery. Knowing this you could calculate the time the batteries will last. Ron

    Transmission's

I'm running a 5 speed manual in my jeep, I like the additional control of ground speed without overheating my brakes. Ron

    First Lessons Learned

Beware of standing water on red clay, it swallowed the right side tires(35's). It got ugly from there, Ron

    Suzuki Samurai Overland Camper

Great choice, They are tough vehicles. The transfer case gears will make ALOT of difference. I belong to an off road group, with several sami's. A popular swap is Toyota axles, also propane made a BIG difference in performance on a stock sami engine, Ron

    First Lessons Learned

Not my first lesson, BUT some I remember... First aid kit for the situation, personal bag(dry clothes, food, fire, shelter, if you don't have to use it that's even better), weather radio. The list goes on each trip, Ron

There are a few trails still open around Tar Hollow, Bark camp, Hamden and Marietta. The club I'm associated with has a ride the second Saturday of each month, some are 1 day, some we make into a weekend. You can check out ohio4x4.com also on facebook. It's a good group of people. Ron

Back half of a trooper into an overland trailer?

I like the idea. I'd measure the tongue weight and evaluate how much storage space you need. Another note, is glass is heavy. do you really need all those solar heating panels. You could also set your load out plan with the heavy stuff at the rear, maybe a wood basket installed in the trailer...

Is a winch a necessity for solo overlanding

I would recommend having a winch. That being said, have you considered going out with a friend and getting stuck. This will allow you to see what your truck can do and you can learn what it takes to get it out. With someone to help if needed, with advice. Ron.

    Transmission Cooler and Fuel Lines

I've used NiCu line from SURR, through NAPA. The wall thickness and quality is better than others I've used. On my jeep, for the fuel system, I'm using nylon tubing, wrapped too convoluted tubing shielded in heat resistant wrap. I abuse my jeep on a regular basis, with no failures, yet. I...

    Leaf-Sprung Rigs

I used WFO concepts shackle reversal kit. I'll do it to every jeep I own, I have a new frame from FNJEEP. I've installed the S/R kit before I even put it under the jeep. Ron

What can we do better for trails?

The group I normally camp and ride with (ohio4x4 trail riders), get to know the locals, support the local businesses and contact local associations. We have a Memorial day ride around Marietta, Ohio and Wayne national forest, We camp at a site owned by a local watershed association. We've met...

    Wrangler YJ LED Headlights

Have you considered wiring your factory head lights through a relay, This allows the lights to be powered by full battery voltage. I've rewired a couple of YJ's, makes a lot of difference and doesn't cost a lot of money. Ron.

Help me decide what size lift/tires for f150

Glad to help, I was in Colorado the week of labor day last year, in Colorado springs. A friend, his son and I did some trail riding. Ron
