Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.
Just got back from doing Black Bear Pass and all the surrounding areas and the TruckFridge TB41A worked fantastic, ran on my "house" battery that was charged off my alternator daily. It was shook and rattled and never missed a beat, quiet and never woke me up either sleeping inside while running...
Works well, I think it is large for a guy and his dog. In a group in is awesome, just did Black Bear Pass and the surrounding areas and worked great at 11,000 ft.
Expensive, good quality, about $450 with hood, wire rack and wind screen. Had a restaurant for years so I do like to cook. For a solo guy and a dog its big, but when out with friends its really awesome. Marco at OverlndX is awesome, he feeds a big crew though.
So far so good been running a few weeks on 110v. then 12v around town and sitting in the car for a few days. I do have dual batteries and a charging lead from my engine battery to charge while driving and yet separate with ignition is off. It has the low, med, high battery cut off. Switches to...
Added a fridge and decided to bring a skottle aboard, so now there's a fight for space. Just love biscuits and my dog does to, so I did some testing and and got them pretty good now.
But then there is still the space and utensils issue ... Saw a drop down somewhere using coffee table hinges...
Bought a TruckFridge TB41A (12v-110v) a few weeks ago, spent weeks trying to find a fridge. Temp goes up (set at 32F 28-34F ) and down some but seems pretty good so far. Has the Dan Foss style compressor (made by the company that bought them).
The TB41 and TB51 are the same foot print, the...
Been running a pair of RV/Deep Cycle Interstate Battieries from Costco in my Diesels, no issues at all. Ran the Gold Label Diehard years ago, but Sears in our local area died....... And they couldn't jump start them again.
My personal rule of thumb is I stay a day for every hour I drive from home. Not necessarily in the same area though. When I head out It takes more time to warm up my engine (diesel) than to load and make coffee and walk the dog.
As soon as I get back I reload and tank is filled and I am ready...
When I stopped by Maxxtrax headquarters Adventure trailers were next door, lots of overland rigs were there. They do open houses every so often. I will swing by there and ask about it, guys had some nice builds and really nice.
Lots of 4wd trails and less rock crawling here. 2wd gets you around...
Lots of Jeep clubs, have not seen any overland club. Sure wave to a number of people though. There are certainly lots of rigs and headquarters to the industry here or close by.
I will ask around and let you know. Love to get a group adventure going, so much to see!
Just my joke on everything is bigger in Texas, there was no mention of that.
Grew up on the west coast with Mojave greens along with their cousins, small and nasty for sure.
Regardless its a big snake for sure.
Picture was in a gas station at Happy Jack near the Mogollon Rim Az.
Everythings big in Texas looks to be true......
Seen my share on and off the road of these buzz worms the last 50 years, close encounters of the unwanted kind.
Sure there some other stories....
My moment is this picture, I am drinking from the cup. My dad and 3 older brothers camping out of a old chevy wagon on my uncles ranch. Every morning I couldn't wait to walk up to see the pigs and horses. Fish in the trough, chickens etc.
Early 1960's, been camping every since.
Ever walk around a bush and said how did this get here?
Someone chipped into the rock 1915 along with something I could not decipher. At the top of the Panimint Mtns. overlooking Death Valley.
Wickiup Rings, Eastern Sierra's Calif near Bishop. There were about 20 in this area. Mortar holes...
Everybodies kit is different, I would chalk out the size of your truck bed or ? then lay out everything you feel you need in categories then prioritize. tools/recovery to food/cook gear etc. Truck beds get wet eventually so... Move it around until you get the right placement then see if draws...
