  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    Headed to NC Mountains

https://www.overlandbound.com/forums/threads/updated-wilson-creek-nc-maple-sally-road-fs-1357-also-known-as-maple-grove-church-road.26719/ I was just reading about the area earlier and saw this and it is near. They mentioned the Lights of Brown Mtn. in several posts in that forum. Page 4 maybe?

    Fly Fishing

Never fished North Georgia but it sure looks interesting. Any decent dispersed camping around the Amicalola?

    Fly Fishing

Need some serious elevation to get away from this July heat! There are trout here near Columbia in the Lower Saluda below the Lake Murray Dam and on the upper Saluda but never fished that. Some below Lake Hartwell Dam as well.

Hey Man! We never have gotten together like we talked about a while back. Now we are in the middle of a pandemic! I'm kinda in the higher risk group but I generally live a secluded lifestyle anyway. Not too worried I was social distancing way before it was popular! Talking to that Pathkiller...

    Overlanding with Diabetes

Same here. Hasn't been an issue yet. Was thinking about retiring this spring and heading to the Rockies to see if I can catch a few trout. Something told me not to get in a hurry. Definitely checking out by end of this year and maybe head west next summer. It would be go to meet up with some...

    What is your sleeping preference?

I've got a Hennessee Hammock and sometimes it's too comfortable! Kinda tricky with an air mattress and mummy bag. Best not drink too many beers before bedtime.

    Costco is selling refgs.

http://www.csiaccessories.com/products/W52 Had this one for a year and it has done well. Got it with some promotional offer for really good price and an outer insulated cover. When camping I freeze blue ice to put in cooler. When home it has been doing duty as a wine cooler. Very pleased so far.

Oh, definitely go up to the U.S. Fish Hatchery just on up the mountain from OCP. Very nice drive down to the S.Fork of the Chattooga.

I have a nice spot down in NE Aiken County with couple of ponds that would be good for camping and you are welcome to come try it. Not too sure how big an RV you have? Driveway needs some overhangs cut out. Water and 15 amp are easy. It's hot and buggy now but when weather cools back off good...

Don't tempt me! If it wasn't supposed to be so hot I definitely would. It will be cooler up there but... mid-nineties here so mid-eighties maybe. Probably not too bad at night. I've been mostly sitting and working from home and now I am in full hermit mode, LOL! Got a little garden going ...

    N. Fork Mills River above Brevard, Davidson River at Brevard both have campgrounds next to river. East? Fork of French Broad near Rosman is nice little stream with pull-offs along the stream. Check all of those out for sure.

Gotcha. I looked up LBF CG. No mention of reservations. Looks like it is right on the river. I haven't read the reviews. Huh? Never knew it was there. Low Water Bridge Rd. Interesting. I would call the FS office and ask them the specifics. Chattooga is better than Chauga IMO. I used to take my...

    SC roll call

Pretty sure it's all first come first serve basis. I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Grape Vine doesn't seem all that well known, except the locals, in my experiences up there. Not too much as trout streams go. There is a bridge over the Chauga further down with a parking area. That...

    SC roll call

I'm thinking that what they mean is no designated dispersed camp sites. I promise you there are hundreds of FS roads that one could remotely camp. I have hunted around Union County and have seen many camp sites the good ole boys use. I would look for side roads/dead ends off the main FS roads...

    SC roll call

I know Grape Vine. Up on the Chauga? Used to do some trout fishing up in the area. A few years ago was by there. LOL,, the only road marking was a GV spray painted on the back of the stop sign. Better fishing on the Chattooga so I usually head up there. Burrell's Ford CG (I see they just...

Anyone using a small microwave when car camping

In a different direction, I used to wrap precooked stuff in foil and leave it on the engine block while driving. Even cooked some chicken if I started first thing in the morning. May not be feasible for breakfast. Depending on what you are doing it is possible to vacuum seal and boil it to reheat.

    Ice Pack In Fridge

I rotate the frozen packs from my CSI freezer/fridge to my roto-molded cooler. There is a separate refrigerator compartment also. Worked good on a ten day trip to the Ozarks last fall.
