  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

Planning year long US OVerlanding journey

I was just looking on maps at Woodridge Public Use Area as a stopover while doing a cross-country. Looks like a neat place to camp by the water.

What's your general purpose cleaner you bring on trips?

At home I cut the Dawn with about 90-95% water. Works good. I mean, you're just trying to make suds, right? Easier to use small doses since I generally just wash dishes as I use them.

    Question for long haulers

And others that stay out for extended periods like @Road. How much/many clothes rotations do you usually plan for and how do you deal with washing? I tend to pack too much and need to have some sort of plan for the changes in weather/elevation, etc., for an extended tour. I don't mind wearing...

    Anyone running a Haven Tent?

RTT is a big expenditure and should be carefully considered. They are not for everyone. There are so many options these days depending on what your goal is. My theory is to have options/backups on the trail and be flexible. Good luck with your build. Do your research before spending your money!

    Anyone running a Haven Tent?

Had not heard of Haven before. I have had Hennessey Hammock(s) for a long time and like them. Like Haven, it is designed to lay flat...more or less. Getting diagonal is the way the Hennessey achieves this and it packs very small. My biggest problem is that it is so comfortable I have a hard...

    Overland Related Recreation

I'm usually alone, and like @Road, I kind of like it for many of the same reasons. I like to just explore and follow my nose, so to speak. Take side roads that look interesting; look for secluded spots to fish, camp, and explore with no particular schedule to be on. I like to fish because it...

Campsite availability on the Kiabab Plateau and along trails near Hurricane Utah

I trekked out to Arkansas a while back and stopped at a sweet little FS campground just off I-22 in Holly Springs NF in Mississippi. A perfect days drive westward. Arkansas Ozarks has some amazing camping as well. That may be too far north for your plans. Let me know and I can get you the...

    12 volt fans?

This one? I've had for two years come August. Haven't used it a lot but works well and I like the four speeds. Still holding a full charge. Would be good in a tent but not so much outdoors. I took it on the boat last year in the hot sun because I had to go in the ninety five degree heat...

    Is LaCroix actually hairspray?

I keep a variety of drinks on hand. Picked up a case of Cotsco's Kirkland zero sugar fruit flavored sparkling water a while back and it was different but refreshing. Also, some of the Bai anti-oxidant drinks, good old orange sodas, the occasional V-8 also hits the spot. Sometimes a ginger ale...

    12 volt fans?

Was at Home Depot yesterday and couldn't resist the Ryobi deal that was going on. Buy two 18 V, 4 Ah batteries and a charger for $99 and get a choice of tools and implements for free. So, I picked up the fan and pair of lights. Sitting here with it blowing on low right now. I think on high it...

Utah Wanted All the Tourists. Then It Got Them.

@Road said: "It behooves us all to promote what I've come to call low-impact land use and responsible recreation. I firmly believe that this forum and others can make a positive impact for generations on just that; low-impact land use and responsible recreation, by encouraging through a...

    Fishing and Touring the West

Thanks for the invite! I want to get to S. Padre Is. at some point and do some surf fishing and also check out the Big Bend area. See some of that Hill Country too. I had a tour through Texas plotted if I make it during early Spring or maybe Fall. I've had this desire for twenty plus years to...

    Small folding table

I just saw one this week and it looks like a well built small table that would pack fairly easily. I liked it because it was a little larger than average TV tray at 30". With sturdy aluminum legs and a solid composite plastic top it seemed easy to clean and not too heavy. Sometimes my...

@Road , thanks for the reply. Your experience in all things related to remote travel is greatly appreciated. I don't recall too many/or any that have spent more time in the wild than you....and maybe Jerimiah Johnson! LOL! And JJ isn't on the interwebs. I will continue to refine my needs and...
