  • Guest, we will be conducting site maintenance August 4th and some downtime is expected. At this time Rally Point and the Member Map will also become an app-only feature for long-term security and stability. A few days after this maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

    Overland Bound Founding Principles

Just read this thread and watched the videos...great stuff! I really like the idea of a brand-agnostic networked help for overlanders. Forgive me for getting brand specific, but some Land Rover owners (myself included) belong to the Birmabright Brotherhood, which is basically a register of LR...

    OB Watches

For outdoors, love my old Suunto Vector, especially the altimeter, don't need an app or connection to the Borg. Somewhere, I saw people bashing a guy for wearing one to the office, which made me chuckle a bit. But then I thought, unless it's your only watch, why would you wear it to the...

    Mercedes-AMG G63

I used to believe that, but that was when MB did not import the G-wagen into the US. I've almost forgotten about the 2-sided nature to the LR moneypit. Corporate ownership used to bleed red, as BMW and Ford got what they wanted, then passed the balance sheet hot potato to Tata. It'll be...

Thoughts and reasons for your chosen rig

I actually didn't put much thought into my rig. I've always loved Land Rovers, even though I was born and raised in Detroit, well ok, born, but raised in the burbs. I've gone camping in trucks, cars, jeeps, but always thought LRs were something different, so when I had the chance to buy a Range...

    Mercedes-AMG G63

The AMG Gs have the tips and ridiculous horsepower, stock ones don't. Still, the fact that MB can adapt these for the NAS market, while LR just kills the Defender, is a credit to MB. Then they announce they're bringing the G 4x4 Squared w/ portals to the NAS market, just makes me more upset w/...

    New from NOVA

Chris - welcome! I don't know if you're on FB, but there's a group, Mid Atlantic Overland Society, that meets locally in NoVA at Kilroys ( in Braddock) for HH 2nd Thursday each month. There's also a monthly HH in MD. Some of the MAOS folks are on here as well. Good people, lots of knowledge...

    Saying Hi

Welcome! As a former Ann Arborite, I encourage you to really check out the area. Lots of great food and things to do, even in the humid summer. Not much in terms of overlanding until you check out the western shore of Michigan or head up to the UP or Isle Royale. Sleeping Bear Dunes is great as...

    SVO ....Small Vehicle Overlanding

As a previous 91 S-10 owner, I would call it small, especially compared to the K-5s, now compared to a Smart? It's huge...

    Vehicular Hypochondria

You don't have an old Land Rover? Seriously, though, this is a healthy concern when overlanding. However, if it's over the top, that can be problematic. If it's really bad, just plan trips with other folks and make sure you have some basic spares for your rig. In my case, a 95 RRC, I know...

    96 Land Rover Discovery Build

Sounds great! I put a Borla on my 95 RRC a long time ago and love the growl it gave her. The lifetime warranty was also nice, as they just replaced it for me more than a decade later. You're in NC, correct? You should hook up with the Carolina Rover Owner Club (CROC) if you haven't already For...

    Overlanding is not Elitist!

Wow! Just read through this thread... As with many folks here, I've found OB to be pretty good about being brand agnostic. I really like the diversity of folks and vehicles, but more importantly, the emphasis on getting out there and exploring. However, overlanding, just as with anything else...

    Jacking it up

I have jack points in my sliders, but I've also used my wheel attachment with the HiLift. Bottle jacks for the garage, though I sometimes use a floor jack.

    .

If you pass through Northern VA, the MidAtlanticOverlandSociety meets for happy hours on the second Thursday every month. Check the FB group, as many folks do hit GWNF trails frequently. A few MAOS guys are members here, but I'm not sure how active they are here. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Looking for Work/Camp/Hike Boots

For multipurpose, you can't go wrong with Merrills, though I have to admit, Doc Martins are more comfortable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What was your first vehicle you took exploring.

2WD 91 Chevy Blazer, but if I'm honest, I've gone camping/exploring before that in a Plymouth minivan, and before that, a Plymouth K-car...[emoji57] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    Theft Prevention

Unless you're traveling, I'd keep the bare minimum on your rig if you have to park in the street or outside. You don't need all the gear to go mall crawling... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

How to reduce the noise on a roof rack?

You could fab your own fairing out of plexiglass. Another thing to try would be to position the rack a bit further back. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
