Just got Henry back from Austin Hiro of Hiro's Hotrods in Bellingham, WA. He did an outstanding job and it only took him a day. Suspension rebuild + Dobinsons springs, AeroGenics rear lower control arms, and adjustable uppers all around.
The Toyo Open Country AT/III tires feel amazing! I sized...
@huachuca & @bryceCtravels - I've got all of those, except for a battery bank for my iPhone. Next time I place a U-Line order at work I'll select that as my free gift. ;)
I can’t find Overlanding on desktop or mobile. I’ve attached a screenshot of mobile.
How do I create a route using two waypoints? Or do I have to create a bunch of waypoints and not expect it to adhere to the forest road or what have you?
I think I'm using Gaia and OnX wrong. I just can't seem to figure out how to create a route on either. Neither wants to allow me to drive offroad. Using these apps, I thought I'd be able to select two waypoints and get a route that uses vehicle-approved routes, not just paved roads.
I got the Quick Fists on using zip ties. I'll just ratchet strap other items to the roof basket. I'll experiment with the full size spare using either ratchet straps or rubber tarp straps. I've got enough to play around.
Here are the installation instructions. It's actually pretty ridiculous - they don't even come with the bolt and washers. I understand not coming with the mount, because it's nearly impossible to make a universal one. I may use zip ties.
I snagged some Quick Fists before without realizing they didn't have hardware to mount. I'd have to spend more to figure out how to mount it than the Fists were themselves. Hah.
Hi folks!
So I've got a cargo basket, and I'll need to mount my full-size spare tire up there, probably my Plano case, my shovel, etc. However, I haven't seen anything used to mount items other than straps. What am I missing? Or do I just need to get some U-bolts...?
I've been accumulating some small items for setting out on the trails, while awaiting all the parts for my lift kit. Everything is on-hand, except my dang Dobinsons springs. My garage smells like a tire shop, which I'll miss when the new shoes go on.
I grabbed a cheap cargo basket to tide me...
Hey @parrotheadnw - I'm looking around that area for my first trip out in my Element. Do you have coordinates for where you went? Looking at the map, it looks like you took a trail off the NF--4936. Would love to be able to find somewhere with nice views.
I did pick up some stuff that I thought would help - shovel, roof rack, storage totes, etc. as well as some essentials I didn't have. I think I've got everything I'll need for quite some time. Plus, I need to continue funding my retirement accounts haha!
Thanks everyone. I've ordered some stuff, and am picking up the rest in person. I think I'll have everything I need by the end of next week.
I ordered a cheaper roof rack that some folks mention rusts after a couple rainy days. So I'm thinking I should just go ahead and spray some protectant...
Thanks everyone!
@North40overland - Sounds like Smittybilt is the way to go with a lot of things. It's funny - I did my first tire puncture repair on our Honda Fit a couple months / 1,000 miles ago. Went really well, hasn't been an issue since. It's amazing what you can learn on YouTube.
@Lead K9 - I've been looking around the Cascades here in Washington. Probably somewhere between I-90 and SR-2. Looks like there's a lot of decent forest roads there, it's not too far from home (Seattle) or towns, and some pretty good views I could get to. Not my ideal place, but worth it to...
Wow, thank you so much, everyone!
@M Rose - Thanks so much for bringing to my attention those required items. I don't think I would ever have discovered that on my own.
@cug - Wow, great list and suggestions.
@ThundahBeagle - I've toyed with the idea of a cheap basket until I can get a...
I do indeed have a hitch but I don’t really want to spend money on a cargo basket for the hitch.
As for the Hi-Lift, I was concerned about that. I’ll nix it for now until I know more. In the meantime, I’ll take my bottle jack and something to widen its base.
Hi folks.
I’m starting out fresh with a silly AWD Element, and I’d like to compile a decent basics list. I’ve read some in some articles, but would like to run this by y’all as well.
I’m going to be starting on USFS and BLM roads, and it’ll just be my dog and I till I find some folks to go...
