I am wanting to upgrade my navigation capabilities and am looking into the Garmin Tread for a variety of reasons and am looking for anyone who has direct experience with this device.
Let me explain why I think this might work for us. While I know a lot of people are in love with Gaia it won’t...
‘Yes.
If you go to the Garmin website you’ll see that they have launched “The Tread” which incorporates the InReach as well as a bunch of additional features including mvum maps and iOverlander. There are also several screen sizes to choose from and the price goes up accordingly...
I asked this question on another forum after a month long trip into the CO and UT backcountry last fall.
One of the more common apps used by others is the Dark Sky weather app. It cost a couple of bucks but it is much more accurate than the weather channel AND it doesn’t have any annoying adds...
My vote would be the Super Duty.
I have a ‘16 F-350 and bought a Hallmark Everest expedition camper (www.hallmarkrv.com) to take for longer trips. Last year we did a 15K mile trip from VA to Alaska and back. It took us almost 3 months and was worth every second. My wife loves traveling in it...
“None of the Jeep engines seem reliable”???
Really? The 3.6 found in the Gladiator and Wranglers has been used by FCA in about 1,000,000 vehicles over the past 10 years or so. I would say it is one of the most dependable engines out there in the mid size segment. It doesn’t make the most...
I agree!
I finally finished my Gladiator build (if that’s even possible LOL) and am going to Colorado and Utah later this week for a shake down trip! Can’t wait. Here’s a couple of pictures!
BTW, Blue Ridge Overland Group is having their Roof Top Tent Rally next month if anyone’s interested…
We’ve camped in bear country, both black and grizzly and never moved our fridge. What we did was to completely clean our eating/cooking area and store those utensils inside when done.
I’ve been reading about spraying ammonia or vinegar around the campsite at night and that seems like a good...
I agree that propane is the way to go for vehicle based camping/overlanding. Much cleaner, safer and easier to source. Plus given the fire restrictions that are popping up out west a propane fire ring is a nice alternative. We just bought one for our trip to CO and UT next month.
I have this stove and am very happy with it’s performance. You can’t beat the price for what you get.

I have the senior (Geezer) Pass and was able to get our discount.I believe you enter that info when you set up your account on the website and it will apply the discount whenever you use it..
You definitely need reservations which can be very difficult to get. We wanted to go at the end of September but weren’t able to get a few spots until Oct 5/6 and this was right when the reservations opened up…

Hi folks. I just thought that I’d just give you my impressions of the Redarc 1240 BCDC controller.
In short it went very well. Now I have to say I am by no means an electrician in fact, I’m an electrical virgin…
Anyway, I had a couple of question about various steps and @REDARC_Ryan WAS ABLE...
Man! Have I gone through some chairs. It seems every year someone comes out with something that catches my attention and of course I buy it…
Sooo here are my two favorite chairs..
Strongback chair - By far the most comfortable chair I have ever tried. The drawback is that it that it doesn’t...
If it's just you and you're not planning on doing any hardcore off-roading then my vote would be for a Subaru Outback or Forrester. They are very dependable and have a great AWD system. We have had several of them over the years. They are also pretty frugal as far as gas is concerned and that...
Welcome neighbor. I’m just over the border in VA and have been to Boone and Blowing rock on several occasions.
I have 2 questions/comments before I can give you any advise…
1. Are you planning on going by yourself or will there be other people in your vehicle?
2. Don’t discount dependability of...
