Would your overlander also become your BOV

I've been around the B.O.B. discussion and it's often recommended to not use a backpack or bag that looks obviously prepared or tactical. You'd want a bag that, in a way, sort of blends in and doesn't raise any eyebrows, or draw people's attention to you as someone who is prepared.

Seeing this thread got me thinking, would the same idea apply to a vehicle? You would probably want something that is obviously prepared and ready to get the job done, but not something that stands out as having been ready. Especially if you're trying to get out.

I've always been a fan of "sleepers" when it comes to performance vehicles... Now, I think I could apply that term to a well-prepared rig in the event of local/national disaster or the zombocalypse.

Of course, if all else fails, weld on those metal plates and mount the .50! Wolverines!

It depends on what situation I was "bugging out" away from. If major roads are open and speed is a factor and not room, then the wife's car will win that battle. If it's more of an exodus thing, then the K2500 with Xterra in tow and everything I can fit in the bed/cab/cabin/open space on trailer/wife's car, ect. If it's last ditch effort to survive, then probably the Xterra and abandon all else. The plan though is to bug in with provisions and weather the storm.

Yup

I like that it is simple. No shocks and whatnot.

I'm in shaky California. At some point we are going to get hammered by "the big one" and our plan has always been set up in the Land Rover. It also makes going on quick weekend trips that much easier as most everything is already packed.

Like others have pointed out, my plan is to stay put as long as possible. Buuuttt, if I had to leave for some reason then absolutely. I built the truck to live out of for an extended period of time. TEOTWAWKI happens, I'm driving my happy butt into the middle of one of the national forests around me and setting up camp with a group of my closest buddies. We're all into the same stuff, and all very heavily armed lol. I would say we would have a better chance than most at coming out of things. Overland builds and bug out situations go hand in hand, you just need to be a little better armed during a bug out.

Absolutely. I plan my equipment around ease of loading the truck. My BOV is my expo rig is my DD. For me it is head away from urban centers and setup camp. My camping trips are really opportunities to train the family and a few close friends on how to live/survive in a GTFO situation. They just think I'm teaching them how to start a fire, run a ridgeline, a few fancy knots, etc. ;)
