I just ordered a Catch Can.

That's gonna help keep it clean....
Does that keep your oil clean or intake clean? Thought that only helped vehicle with EGR and stops the intake sooting up. Maybe it does both?

In my 2005 Ford F-250 Super Duty I'm running Schaeffer's SynShield 15W-40.

This truck is new to me, however I bought it with 135k miles on it. Up to this point, it's had the default Valvoline 15W-40 treatment from the dealer but knowing I wanted to keep this around for another 100-200k miles I decided do some extra homework on the type of oil to use.

The F-250 series is very popular in agriculture, so I decided to start there and see what oil brands were popular at farms in my area and Schaeffer's came up the most frequently. From there, I decided to browse Ford's approved diesel oils list (the infamous WSS-M2C171-F1 list) and found out that they just added the SynShield 15W-40 (CK-4) in November 2016.

I'm 50% the way through the first oil change with the Schaeffer's and so far, so good. I won't be having an oil analysis performed until after the 2nd change, but I've had no noticeable diesel bypass (I'm running 99% biodiesel fuel) and zero stiction issues.

Mostly just for the intake / throttle body. Why dump that sludge in there? Seems like a goods idea for not a lot of money.

Agreed, that was my understanding but wondered if you were suggesting it would keep the engine oil cleaner for longer too. Just fitted one for a friend on his TD5, amazing amount of oil collected. Hopefully should improve performance in the future as the intercooler won't be full of oil.

Not at all. Just generally keeping the intake cleaner.

I'm not into long Oil Change Intervals. Even with a good synthetic I will be changing around 7500 at max. I've heard of people running Amsoil for 20,000 miles. Not me.

My '05 Ford Escape prefers Motorcraft 5W20 Synthetic blend, on 5000 mile change cycles.

Cheers, TR
