What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?


D'oh! At least it looks like you're already on the job. Were you able to locate parts easily?



As for mine, with the help of a old racing/car club buddy/neighbor I got it buttoned back up. Unfortunately I missed JCWages (my fault, not his) but certainly appreciated the offer to help. I didn't get many pics, because I got a late start (I wasn't turning a wrench until after 3 thanks to errands, some work, and the aforementioned car shopping for my girlfriend's business). Here's what it actually looked like pulled apart enough to get the easy-out in and basically where we started today:

And a terrible shot, but it's all back together properly now:

A little test-drive and re-torque of lug nuts and such and it was good to go:

This time I did my best to clean out the bolt holes in the rear-end housing. I had been using WD-40 to help with the drilling and hopefully penetrate and make the broken bolts extract more easily. However, I didn't want the holes soaked in WD when I put it back together, just to cause this same issue again. I blasted the holes out with brake-cleaner, then with compressed air and did my best to get them nice and clean. I then used some red-loctite on the hardware (I'll probably hate myself for this when I take it all apart again in a few months for the rear long-arm... but such is life).

That looks so good! Sucks I missed you guys but I KNOW there will be future opportunities to lend a hand fixing broken stuff. lol

Lol, you got that right: there will be more broken stuff to help with on one of our rigs, I'm sure. I also have my "plans" for this thing, so there will be some serious work ahead. Then again, when I see it and drive it as-is and see comments like yours, I start to think "hmmmmm... does it really need 33"+ tires..?"

I think Jeni's Maxxis MTB sponsorship may work for teuck tires too so I've begun a plan to buy a set of 33' MTs and have a set of 31s to run daily and for long trips. Haha
 
Replaced the front wheel hub assemblies. Still looking for longer than stock wheel studs though.
Have you tried cross comparing specs with the Dorman stud catalog? Sometimes you'll find that another vehicle has the same or similar enough specs. For example, we found that the newer Camaro has the same wheel stud spec as the 2nd Gen Colorado/Canyon and the Ford F250 has nearly identical specs but are longer. It's worth looking into.

Recently relocated from Seattle area, where road salting-- snow for that matter-- is not an issue. Been working through the exterior of the 80 to remedy some rust Gremlins trying to take hold, ahead of the Ogden winter . . . And inevitable road salt. Removed, prepped, and painted the front bumper last week and reinstalled with the help of my 3.5 yr old son. Today gave the same treatment to the wiper arms. Still got the rear bumper to do, and going to "bed armor" the rear quarter panels behind the wheel wells. Road salt, do your worst!!

I'll have to re-install the front mud guards and finesse them a bit to prevent tire contact.

Yeah, I have been checking Dorman & ARP both. ARP is very expensive so will be (hopefuully) going with the Dormans once I find what's needed. Right now knurl & underhead length are the measurements not matchig up.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

I took my 4-1/2 year old granddaughter for a ride to a friend's hay farm, to pick up a few hay bales. She wants me to help her set up a Harvest / Halloween Display for the front lawn. I'm game. Anything to make her happy; and I don't mind a road-trip(even for a short distance) .

We stopped at the Double Arches for breakfast.
