• Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

3341 chiming in, and I can sincerely say that this group is the best of what an online community can be. That's not to say that it can't go down those troubled roads of elitism, like so many other groups, but up til now and hopefully way into the future it will continue to be a wide range of experiences shared freely and without worry of whether you fit into the mold. Great idea that has spawned a great diversity. I love it, and am spreading the seeds of overlanding wherever I travel. In fact next year plan on traveling to Argentina and will be looking for those offgrid destinations to fly the Overland Bound Base Camp flag!

With Expansion also comes concerns! It will become increasing difficult to keep this "tight knit feel" and to insure that people abide by the core values. Looking forward to people assuming leadership and having local chapter to insure this small family feel continues!

The more the merrier!
I was thinking the same thing, might be a good time to start discussing local chapters...

I too hope that we're able to adhere to the founding principles as they are what makes the community so welcoming and great.

You're right, and I'm pretty sure that's why regions were just rolled out. Easier to get connected with people close to you.

You are exactly right! Each region is lead by a regional ambassador who is a staff member in these forums, and can speak with the voice of Overland Bound. It's an ongoing process, but we are meeting moment to moment daily, communicating about OLB concerns and member related interactions. The regional ambassadors either directly manage, or work closely with a FB administrator to directly manage the FB groups.

Boom! As you dig deeper, the reasons start to emerge. This community stands for something really profound. We are so humbled and commited to uring everything into supporting OB.

Cheers!

I won't throw any stones but I have been/am affiliated with a couple of other Overlanding forums/discussion/groups and this one is different. From the serialized medallion that gives everyone a way to feel a part of things to the meet-n-greets I have done with members of this group. They are friendly, non-competitive and respectful. This is not always the case at others and one of the major reasons I have, and will, continue to support OB. Yes, that is large part due to the time and respect that @Michael and @Corrie provide to all the members! That medallion is on my truck and a proud symbol to anyone that has a question. comment or just a wave knows we have OB in common!!

Face ballz, killed mine 4 yrs ago
It probably does stand for Facebook. I used to have a Facebook account too but I also closed down my account about eight years ago based on online privacy concerns. Facebook like Google-based products such as Gmail and Chrome might be free but they all come with a price, your online privacy. Not sure how I am going to interact with my local Facebook regional group if they only exist on that social media platform.

I will have to look into it a bit further. I would prefer to not have to create a new account but I may have no choice as I want to be a part of the community and contribute. Facebook now have new features like on-the-fly Facebook Live, which is what Corrie and Michael have used quite successfully whilst on the road. They have also grown to now have 1.86 billion users so a large percentage of the world do not see the lack of online privacy as an issue. Some recent legislative changes here in the U.S now means that online privacy does not exist anymore or at least, it does not have to officially exist anymore. Perhaps, I need to join the 21st century and accept the price of inclusivity. Join Instagram and the rest of the popular social media platforms too perhaps.

There was a press release 4 yrs ago that faceballz was doing phsychological tests on users to see if they could manipulate the mood of their posts by showing them negative posts and stories. This without real consent, just loopholes in the user agreement. Not to mention mark zuckerberg is a creep.
