The small mods

Everyone likes to talk about the big mods they do to their rigs such as lifts, tires, armour, lights, storage systems, etc. But I want to hear what small or lesser talked about mods (even free mods) that you really like or have seen.

I'll start with a few simple ones. First I cut and rewired my cigarette outlets so they are always on to charge my phone, not just when the truck is on. It runs off my second battery.
Second, I wired a switch between my second battery and my stereo and with the use of some cut off diods I can turn on the stereo with the truck off. It will only drain the deep cycle second battery. I like this to play tunes when I'm out camping since the sound system is already pretty good. Of course it's not routing the full power of the stereo through that switch.
Lastly, one just for fun, a cheap air horn as a second horn. It just a little louder than the stock horn but it sounds much more amusing, like a food truck horn. It's wired through a button near my left knee and I can quickly tap it to do a much quieter/friendly bop of the horn.

If you got a mod that just makes your rig just a little better, I want to hear. Pictures appreciated

I installed this net in my 2005 Sequoia. Makes having jackets, or snacks nice and handy and not on the floor or seats.

One of the small mods for me was a iPad and phone mount by vector off-road and 67 designs it did not cost much but makes a world of a difference.

I jumpered my rear window relay to work at all times. Then relocated the switch to be in reach of my sleeping platform.

Loosened the wiring harness to be able to mount my computer in my glovebox. Raises it about a foot from stock position.

I created a breather system that connected the axles and tranny together that terminates into a 'snorkel' that’s inside the cab, it's the little brass thing in the center of the 2nd pic. It helps keep road and trail crude, as well as leaky engine fluids and water out of the breather system.

I got this awesome & pretty complete first aid kit by Surviveware. It has a buckle strap that clips around the front headrest w/ Velcro that holds the kit to the strap mount. It has a ton of stuff in extremely organized & labeled pockets. Since it is on the back of the headrest it isn’t occupying space for anything else and it is super convenient to grab it out when needed bc of the Velcro. A lot better than digging around for my old kit that would get shifted around or buried making it hard to get to when needed. It also contains like twice the stuff in a much more orderly package than my old kit. I just ordered 2 more of these kits yesterday. 1 to put on my boat and another to put in my sister’s car since she always seems to be having a kid get hurt.

The simplest mod I've done are some paracord grab handles that go on the driver and passenger headrest. It really helps the little dude get in and out of his car seat.

I've been thinking about something like this for a while - but I definitely wouldn't want to spend that kinda money on a GoPro for it. I use a fullsize iPad for Gaia navigation so I'd love to have some kind of live view wireless camera I can stick on the front for when I'm on the trail. It's always a little harrowing when you are going up a steep incline and have no clue what is on the top of it.

I used the flat-mount that has sticky tape on it. Stuck it dead center of my grill right under where it says Toyota.

I got the idea right after cresting a steep hill and not being able to see what was in front of me. Had a GoPro and thought "I wonder if I can...". It helps to have a larger tablet to stream to but any screen helps.

I removed the rear seats and seat belts in my 100 and added two of these Takata Racing Seat Belt Eye Bolts for a couple of tie down points on the floor. They work great!




I also plugged the hole left by the upper rear seat belt mount with some small cargo lights.

I designed and 3D printed USB port hub for a barely usable pocket in my 4Runner really brought this ol truck into the current decade haha
