Question for Nissan Xterra owners equipped with side curtain airbags in their rigs...

First I have heard of this. I am 10 years into my X and have had it every which way and even air born a few times (most not intentionally). Never even gave it a thought until now. If ignorance is our strength, you have made me weeker.

What year X do you have?

I personally have never had it happen and don't take any precautions to stop their deployment (disconnecting anything). I do know one person that had hers deploy.

My understanding is it was a bigger issue with the Frontier and earlier second gens but that video is proof it can happen to a later second gen.

My air bags must not be too sensitive since I landed this horrible jump without issue.

:flushed:

Looks like Nissan had this on their radar and has now issued a recall repair order to recalibrate the ACU (Airbag Control Unit). So I imagine that most 2nd Gen Xterra owners will receive notice from Nissan soon, if not I would just stop by your local dealership and check. I'm actually typing this from the dealership waiting area at this very moment! :)

Interesting ... my Frontier is in for unrelated service and they asked to keep it longer to address a reprogramming recall... same thing I bet

Yep, that was it. My dealer confirmed it was in deed a reprogram for the side curtain air bags

I'm glad Nissan stepped up, although I'm sure that they were forced into it.

Called the dealer today, sat on hold........................................................................

Right now it is a crap shoot if the programming actually takes. Lots of people are being told they'll have to come back once the programming issue is fixed.
When I dropped my '11 frontier off on Friday the service writer said the same thing. But, upon picking it back up he said they had no issues with the update.

Wish I would have found this out before this weekend, had the side curtain bags go on a easy section of trail, and it took the pre tensioners with it so I had to drive 80 miles home with no front seat belts or airbags. Thanks Nissan, aside from that my truck ran great.

That really sucks! Sorry to hear that! :(

Following this thread as I have side curtain airbags in my vehicle (which is not an Xterra)

Jumped through the hoops and took my Frontier in yesterday, Nissan is paying for new airbags, and tensionors, along with the headliner they took out...2 weeks and it should be better than new
