Mpg Worries

I too am going to look into the Pizza Cutter option on my next set of tires. Problem I have though is I live in an area with a lot of sand and wider tires seem to work better there.
 
Regear the truck low and slow down. Figure out how and where you particular engine does its best work and gear the truck appropriately. A buddy of mine has a 19 Taco on 35s and runs 5:13 gears. His average cruise speed is about 60 and empty he sees 18mpg and loaded for camping it drops to around 15. Gears are your friend...

Mine are worse. Pizza cutters with no tread. LOL. Road tires. Wonderful for the highway, but I've actually been stuck in wet grass and had to winch out. LMAO

8,000 lb 4Runner & 3,100 lb Patriot Camper and 4:88 are my friend.

I can cruise 65-70 no problem and get 11.5 mpg
 
My 20 ZR2 Bison Colorado / v-6 gasser, gets 17mpg highway (@65mph) 14.5 combined on-road, off-road (70/30).
