Do you guys have your camp sites lined up?

When you say "lined up" I'm not quite sure what you mean.

I have targeted several sites and off-shoots that will work for large groups, but there are no reservations where we're going to be.

I have been there and have a good idea where we can go, but fitting 40 trucks where I 'think' they'll fit may surprise me!

While I was on the tentative list I thought there was no chance of getting moved into confirmed, so I've booked a trip to do the Mojave trail solo leaving Houston Texas this Friday, and planning to be on the trail head, ready to depart by 9:00 am Monday morning (March 13th) - if anyone else is game they can join in.

So with that said please remove me from the list. Although... I would like to pay for a patch if that's possible since I'll be doing the trip ahead of the group?

Alright folks, it’s commitment time!

View attachment 18133

Not sure how this is going to go, the only way I have to collect money is through PayPal, so what I’m proposing, in the hopes that all that want to go can arrange to use PayPal, is to give you an e-mail address and you can send money and some basic information.

I’m going to open this up for those that were committed from the beginning, the first list. On Thursday, 3/9, I’ll open it up to the “Tentative” list to make the 40 vehicle limit.

I’d like to keep the max number of vehicles for this trip at 40 to make it somewhat manageable.

Cost: $10/Vehicle
- includes fee for the permit through Mojave Preserve
- 1 unique and very cool collector patch
- Overland Bound collection swag & bits

Pay to: use PayPal to March2Mojave@gmail.com

Send the following information to the same e-mail address: (or attach it to the PayPal info)
- *Your name
- *Your OB Forum Name
- *How many people in your vehicle
- *Rig info (make/model/color, & if you’ll be pulling a trailer)
- *Communications you have (Ham/2M, CB, FRS, other, none)
- *Your e-mail address & Phone number to contact you
- *Emergency Contact information for you (name, phone, relation)
- How many miles will you travel to the trailhead? (Avi Casino)
- Do you have any medical training (anything from First Aid to Doctor?)
*Required information

March2Mojave@gmail.com will be the main e-mail that I will use to communicate with everyone for this trip, feel free to contact me directly with questions, or use the OB messaging, post to this thread, or chat if you see me online.

Next up, rendezvous points and more trail information coming soon, as well as the National Park Service Rules & Regulations.

Thanks all, I hope everyone we have room for all that can/want to go.

See you there!

Dan.
Just sent Paypal! @Michael @Joel 11k @Tom K Any plans of a caravan down? I'm planning to drive down Thursday at some point and stay at the Avi Casino that night. Was thinking of leaving around noon but that can change if there are plans for a convoy.

If he can get to Victorville he can ride with me, and leave his vehicle in my garage.
How much gear does he have? I will have my back seats open.

As long as he's good with a Thursday pick up, we can get him.
Hey HMB. I have a shoot penciled in LA Thursday so it might be tight. Thanx for the offer. If I don't catch you before I'll see you at the start point. Cheers Baz.

Who's excited? :)

OK - So our main man @BazzaJ is coming with us on this trek and he's bringing his camera! But we need some transportation assistance from So CA, if possible?

Baz is based in LA/Hollywood, and would need transport for himself, his gear and a tent to the rendezvous point, and then a ride back.

Is anyone coming from that area?

He would also be able to drive to a point off of the 15/10, and then park his vehicle in a safe location for the weekend.

Any and all help would be appreciated. Compensation involved!

Corrie

Thanx Corrie. Clifford's offer sounds super potential. Just checked in to see when he's leaving as I now have a Thursday photo shoot. X

I will be going to the Avi Thursday. So I can meet up Friday morning as needed.
Does that answer your question?
Would be very happy to have you with me on the trail.

I'm planning to leave as early as I can from work in Mountain View on Thurs. Happy to convoy if we have a few vehicles.

Mojave Road folks!

If you’re the lawyer type, or just interested in the Rules and Regulations (and why wouldn’t you be?), here they are as I received them as part of the Permit process.
Please pay special attention to the following. If you don’t believe me, read on, I can’t make this stuff up!

1. You must have your own insurance on your vehicle, we as a group have no insurance. If anything happens, the NPS can’t be held liable.
2. If anything gets pear-shaped, it’s my butt on the line, so I will be grouchy if you don’t follow these rules!
3. This permit can be revoked at any time by the Ranger or Superintendent.
4. Use of a mineral or metal detector is not allowed in the Preserve.
5. You can’t collect, deface or destroy historic or pre-historic artifacts in the Preserve. Just leave everything where it is. They specifically dis-allow even doing rubbings or other art transfer in any form.
6. Don’t take anything, or leave anything (except pictures and footprints?)
7. Travel and Stay in ‘disturbed’ areas only. Don’t drive over stuff, even if it looks like it’s dead.
8. No cutting of any wood, at all, even if it’s lying on the ground unless you brought it with you.
9. Become familiar with the “Leave No Trace” philosophy (I’ll post that later!)
10. Leave the area as good or better than you found it.
a. Store food in a way that prevents wildlife impacts
b. If you smoke, don’t (do not) drop your butts on the ground, carry them out.
c. Carry out ALL WASTE, including human and pet waste, or bury it in a cat-hole 6”deep.
11. All pets must be confined or on a leash no longer than six (6) feet at all times.
12. Campsites must be made in previously disturbed spots. Campfires must be made in either existing steel or rock fire-rings or a metal fire pan. Read #27 below for more detail.
13. Stay on established / dirt roads.

The Desert Tortoise! (it's totally a big thing out there!, more on that in a later post)
14. They are probably active this time of year, especially young ones that can’t move as fast or their shells are not fully developed and not as hard.
15. They are protected by law, you can’t touch them, move them or in any way disturb them.
16. They’ll sometimes crawl under vehicles out of the hot sun, so check before you drive away.
17. Any injury to a tortoise must be reported – see contact information below.
18. Watch for tortoises on the road, and when traveling in convoy, allow enough spacing to be able to see anything that might be in the road.
19. Worth repeating – Dogs must be on a leash at all times!
20. No shooting of guns within the Preserve
21. Any emergency costs of any participant will be borne by the participant – you’re all responsible for yourself! What a concept!
22. Bring a First Aid Kit and be prepared to use it as needed.
23. You can’t sell anything and filming for promotional activities is not allowed under this permit.
24. And most important, as the Permit Holder, I promise that you will all obey the rules!

These will be made available to you as a document, you don't need to download anything from the forum.

If you have any problems with following these Rules & Regulations, you have the option to bail out now.

Coming soon, the "Leave No Trace" document. Please stand by!

So uhhhhh, 23d...it says "provided toilet". I'm assuming provided by ME. Sooooo, who can provide a good toilet system? Emptying this thing will do amazing on my gag reflex. Ugh. I saw one at REI that looked like a big Home Depot bucket with a lid. Recs? Thanks...I know a little off topic.

Nope, good discussion actually, I was kind of waiting for this to come up. Some will be surprised at the lack of available privacy out there.

I'm used to using a PETT toilet when I'm in the backcountry, mostly because I hate digging a hole. ...and you're really not supposed to in NPS parks.
There's this Reliance one at Walmart or other sporting goods stores, not bad.

All use Wag Bags, a two-part bag that has a powder that absorbs "liquid", then seals up nicely so you can throw it away in a trash can.
That's right, the best reason to own a Trasharoo.
