You have to email it to yourself, and then save the file to Gaia.

As a forum side note... All caps posting tends to imply you're yelling, or otherwise trying to make your point stand out...

I think it can. I don't typically use Gaia for routes since my iPad doesn't have a dedicated GPS, I just use it for larger maps, and the "close" location it picks up from my phone.
