Dad started it all and the boy wanted to follow suit but in a more "classic" way. I have been updating the What Did You Do With Your Rig Today? thread with details on both but figured a build thread would be a better place to chronicle what's going on. Dad's build is in progress but has stalled out to help the boy with his build, errr, restoration.

Dad - 2020 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon
Boy - 1965 Jeep J200 Gladiator

Had the front end on jack stands this weekend and think at least one locking hub is blown - probably the ticking sound we hear occasionally. Dropped it back down to put new alternator in but am waiting on some hardware to finish that... We did pop open the master cylinder and found it mostly empty so filled it. Now I know the brakes need bleeding! And we got the fuel filters replaced with new ones this weekend.

And I watched some rust removal and sheet metal repair vids this morning.

So much to do ;)

@Greg Eigsti that was a very good camping spot, fun trip, and I think it was @KRose favorite trip of the year. It’s the one she talks about the most and wants to do again next year.

Speaking of next year, time to start planning out our Memorial Day Weekend Trip for 2021.

Another dad's Gladiator update (earlier this summer)

Satisfied my RAM mount fetish with new parts. Got larger ball and arm to support the iPad properly. Also added ram ball to front tow hook for trail cam goodness (ask me if have used it yet...)

Took the wife to visit our good friends and camp on their lot in Ocean Shores

Installed Hothead headliners with their Sound Assassin tape. I can say I have had all the tops off :)

And got it dirty again! I did not want to want a Gladiator but my darned co-worker's red Gladiator was just too much for me to resist :)

Memorial day - bring it on!
Next time I go to that spot, which was wonderful, it will have to be on a less busy weekend! Almost got taken out by folks playing Dukes of Hazzard on the way out.

Talking about Spring Creek, or up there in Washington?

Totally blew my wad on Black Friday. Method 704 wheels and BFG KM3's 37x 13.5x17, $3000. Clayton Overland Plus 3.5in lift, $2250. Fox 2.0 shocks, $600. Bestop Sunrider Twill, $600. Tazer Mini and front camera, $400. Synergy track bar and steering box support, $250. Bestop targa sunshade, $50. That might do it for awhile, other than re-gearing. I think I got some decent deals on things I was eventually going to buy.

3D printed some "Jeep rear door hinge protectors" because the first weekend out I chipped one down to the metal.

Took it on its inaugural run to Nevada.

Installed radio (Kenwood TM-D700) under rear seat, ran power and installed antenna. Gray box by the radio is a Raspberry Pi that feeds the radio GPS data and manages custom satcom solution.

Dad's Gladiatot is an automatic so the empty clutch pedal hole makes a great ingress point to the cab. Removed the plug and drilled out the "face" with a step bit and filled it with rubbery foam (yoga mat) and epoxy.

Very nice. I miss having a truck. I always find myself folding seats and dodging the front headrest in my JKU. I consider myself a mild wheeler so may go Gladiator for my next ride. Plus sleeping off the ground but under the stars is always nice.

Agreed! Missed my truck but loved my JKU. Took the family camping a few times in the JKU and my wife told me to get a trailer and a roof rack. I said “how about a Gladiator” and the rest is history. I still need to figure out a canopy/rack/RTT to make @Heidi happy ;)

Love sleeping under the stars!
