I’m posting this in the EU section because it affects members in Europe. It might also be of interest to some members here who use inReach, SPOT, and similar devices.
I recently tried to renew my Garmin SAR insurance plan, but I was informed that customers residing outside the United States, U.S. territories, and Canada can no longer purchase this SAR plan. So there must be an alternative. I then contacted a company in Germany that specializes in GPS tracking, communication, and emergency call systems, and they recommended getting insurance from Overwatch x Rescue.
People residing in Europe can also get SAR insurance there. I find the price reasonable and the coverage adequate, just my personal opinion. Maybe this will help some of you here.
Taking out the insurance was straightforward; everything was done online. Then I got an account with a web-based dashboard. Everything there is very clear and easy to navigate.
Of course, you never really know if an insurance policy is any good until you need it, but I don't want to find out the hard way. But I think this is worth recommending, especially as it was impossible for me to extrend the Garmin SAR insurance.
