US West East Bay Monthly Meet Up - at Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park - Sunol CA

No June meetup? LOL figures - the one I can finally make. Miss everyone - hope all is well with each of you! I'll swing by the San Jose one instead if anyone is down that way on the 14th.

Sorry Boz - hope to see you in July.

Kavanaugh Ridge, Bodie & Bristlecone Expedition (July 17-19) — Rally Point is OPEN!

Hey crew,

Get ready, here we come! The official sign-up for our highly-anticipated mid-summer expedition to Kavanaugh Ridge, Bodie, and the Bristlecone Pine Forest is officially open!

Led by Michael Norton (@Michael_Exploder), we are heading up into the high-alpine terrain of the Eastern Sierra from July 17 to July 19, 2026.

Because of the high-altitude trails, rocky terrain, and dispersed camp locations, we are limiting the group to 8-10 rigs to keep the convoy manageable and safe.

The Logistics

Dates: Friday, July 17 – Sunday, July 19, 2026
Meetup Time: 7:00 AM
Meetup Location: McDonald's at Santa Rita Rd and Hwy 580 E in Pleasanton (our standard East Bay deployment point)

Where We're Camping & Exploring

We will be split-camping across two unique Sierra locations:

One night at the base of Kavanaugh Ridge, right off Dunderberg Meadow Road.
One night east of the ghost town of Bodie along the Bodie High Desert Highway.

Over the course of the weekend, we’ll be exploring:

Kavanaugh Ridge Trail (Spectacular high-alpine trail with views of Mono Lake at over 11,000 feet)
Bodie State Historic Park (California's iconic gold-mining ghost town)
Del Monte Canyon Road & Aurora Ghost Town Ruins (Rugged tracks leading to Esmeralda history)
Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest (Walking among the oldest living trees on Earth)
Mammoth Lakes (Stunning backdrop for the weekend's high-Sierra driving)

Hey everyone,

For those who couldn't make it to the meetup last week, here is a quick recap of what we discussed. We had a great turnout and some fantastic conversations

️ Owyhee Recap & Lessons Learned
We relived our recent Owyhee, Oregon expedition, sharing photos, stories, and some critical lessons learned from the trail. One of the main takeaways was the absolute necessity of having organized emergency contact details and clear group safety guidelines on remote runs.

To make this seamless for future trips, we’ve put together two new resources:

1. **EBO Group Trip Agreement:** We have introduced a voluntary guidelines agreement and waiver. Moving forward, we ask all participants to review and sign this. You can read, sign, and submit it online in under two minutes here: [Group Trip Agreement & Waiver](https://www.overland-eastbay.com/admin/group-trip-agreement.html).

2. **Glovebox Checklist:** We created a brand new checklist guide highlighting exactly what documents and permits you should keep inside your vehicle on every run. Check it out here: [Glovebox Essentials Guide](https://www.overland-eastbay.com/glovebox-essentials.html).

Your 3 follow-up action items before our next trip:
**Review:** Read through the [Group Trip Agreement](https://www.overland-eastbay.com/admin/group-trip-agreement.html) and reply with any questions or suggestions.
✍️ **Sign:** Please Sign and submit online so it is on file.
**Prep:** Organize your glovebox (printed emergency contacts, CA campfire permits, vehicle registration/insurance, and HAM license) using the new [Glovebox Essentials Checklist](https://www.overland-eastbay.com/glovebox-essentials.html).

Last-Minute Kavanaugh Ridge Discussion
We had a final coordination discussion regarding the upcoming **Kavanaugh Ridge** run (July 17–19). The trip details page has been updated with the finalized logistics, location info, safety standards, and meetup points. Please review the updated itinerary before departure:
[Kavanaugh Ridge Trip Details & Itinerary](https://www.overland-eastbay.com/events/TRIP_2026_07_17_Kavanaugh_Ridge.html)

Calendar & Upcoming Trip Adjustments
We are adjusting a few things on our schedule for the August/September period. Keep an eye on our [Calendar Page](https://www.overland-eastbay.com/calendar.html for live updates:
**Stanislaus National Forest Trip:** Jimmy is working on putting together a new trip route in Stanislaus. Details will be posted as soon as they are finalized.
**Leavitt Lake Update:** The planned Leavitt Lake trip is being modified. Due to route conditions and planning, it will now be a base camp trip at **Fraser Flat** (more information and sign-ups to come soon!).

Thanks to everyone who came out to share stories and plan the next chapters of our adventures. See you on the trail!
