DIY Awnings

I've seen some posts on here from folks who have built their own awnings. What sorts of fabrics did you use? Are they able to be folded/rolled up like the production ones? Any build threads?

I'm thinking of going the DIY route and am looking for inspiration and ideas. Looking forward to see what this community has done!

I'm building one for my Jeep TJ. Going with the collapsible tent pole/ conduit design and I picked up a 6'x8' canvas tarp from Tractor Supply for the fabric. Still have to figure out how I'm going to mount it though....

i rocked this setup in 10 minutes. no rain in british columbia all summer, until we head out for some family camping. lucky i had this tarp along. don't need much and sure don't need to spend $500+. have an tarp and some rope in the truck and you'll figure something out in the rain. we rocked ratchet straps and used a paddle in the middle to keep it up. held for 4 days. had to make some adjustments when we took the canoe off though.
