Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

Here is my outdoor kitchen - wooden construction - permanently fixed on a swing-away tray (can be removed if really necessary) - super fast setup time - less then a minute. I wasn't able to upload a movie with more details - it's posted on my Instagram account (@dervwbus).

Found an old Military tote on Craigslist, my dad informed me it was what they would bring into the field with hot food in it. I was excited! A perfect base for our chuck box. So I went to work and did some simple modifications. Nothing crazy.
Modifications
Wood to level out the shelves
A trial shelf to add storage - to be fixed at later date
Non slip pads because no one likes everything spilling out
Hinges to make it one unit
Wheels with locks to level it out and make it easier to slide in and out of the trailer
Wire hanger with s hooks for our utensils
WALAH! A very sturdy, easy chuck box.

I built one similar to the plans linked above back in 2013. I have used it about a dozen times and it has been great. Keeps everything well organized and gives you a great surface to work off of.

Sally & I like to keep things simple, our kitchen gear is stored in a tote. Nothing fancy but works for us. Our long term foods is stored in another green colored Plano 56qt box. Our perishables are stored in a black Plano 56qt box.

I went down the chuck box build road - super fun project. I ended up abandoning it due to weight (wood is heavy) and efficiency in packing it for overland travel. Not trying to talk anyone out of it just be aware of it. Though not the sturdiest, but helps me pack all the kitchen stuff.
Top Rack - camp lights, cups, plates and cutlery.
Middle - condiments and sauces
Bottom - pans and large bowls

Good thread, has given me some great ideas for building my own Chuck Box! BTW, I had never heard of a Chuck Box until I clicked on this thread! My idea is to build a Chuck Box that is mostly open inside but fitted to store plastic totes or those plastic drawers, this will help keep the weight of the box down. I'll build a nice top to hold my portable grill and should be nice. Tell you what, I'm finding all kinds of things to keep me busy on this forum and loving every minute of it!

We had something similar 40 years ago, built out of 1/4" Baltic Birch.

I'm in the works now of converting my grandfathers military foot locker in a Chuck Box. The idea is for it to slide out of the cargo area on it's side and the "top" will open downward and act as the shelf for our cookstove.
