Advice Needed!!! How do I....Selling a sweet blacked out rig that NEEDS WORK.

Hey OB!

We have a 2001 Nissan Pathfinder LE 4wd in interesting shape. It's an all black, heavy tinted, murdered out shiney beast looking thing- oem silver wheels. Only 87,000 miles. The 3.5. The interior is in amazing shape for this old of a truck. The all black interior is as if no one ever sat in it. Black leather, clean carpet, non-cracked dash. As far as the interior goes, it's pretty wild how nice it is. It was a Brooklyn and Puerto Rico "garaged a lot" truck.
Ok- so mechanically. It needs brakes/rotors, suspension all around, new catalytic, various valve leaks, maybe an oil pan issue.
The "monetary motivation" isn't there and I don't wrench, so we are looking at donating/selling for parts/Marketplace/ junkyard. Runs, but its not a good idea to do so, the leaks are adding fuel to the cat, which turns bright cherry red in a mile or two- No a good idea to drive it!

Whats best?

1. Want it? We are convienetly located on the Central Coast of CA half way between LA and SF. Make a "OB Baby 0000" OBOverlander!!
2. Marketplace? As is come get it
3. Donate? Not familiar
4. Junkyard? (It just looks way to nice for that and that stings)
5. As I said, I dont wrench, so I'm not going to part it myself.


Any advice on how to get the most for it?

-And no, the #0012 badge is not on it! Thats still on my 2000 4Runner happily turning around 215k.

wayyy too nice for the junkyard...

id do Marketplace. I had a shop full of woodworking tools I sold on Marketplace with great results and I recently sold my boat on Marketplace and that turned out really good. as with anything, you might get a few calls that turn out to be aggravating...people setting up times to meet to see it and not show up or immediately want you to "throw in" something else along with it, etc. but you can just weed thru those...

overall I think Marketplace is a solid choice and since you are being so honest and upfront about its condition...I doubt you will have a problem afterward. it will be a perfect rig for the right person and you'll sleep better knowing its going to a good home versus being parted out. you'll probably need a notary to do the title transfer and I'd do a short bill of sale stating its "As Is". I did that with a gooseneck trailer I had...been sitting a long time and I wasn't all that sure of the condition of the brakes, tires, etc...so I did it "As Is" and took it to a notary

Thank you very much for the advice. I agree it’s way too nice. I think I’ll find someone. I have a safe spot to park it. I hope it goes to a home where someone will build the heck out of it. I don’t think I’ll ever have the confidence to let my son take it a few states away even if I dumped a ton into it. Thanks!

Do NOT junkyard that. If I was closer I would gladly take it off your hands. I had a 98 Chilcook trail edition and I hit a moose in it when it was 3 days old. Did 18,000 in damage back then. We had it repaired and it was fine. drove it for 135,000km sold it to a friend and they drove it till it rusted away. It was one of my favorite vehicles we owned. That rig deserves to live on.
 
I found a mechanic that wants it as a project to flip. Digging deeper, it does need quite a bit. Valves leaking gas straight into the cat started a fire! It was out out fast, but…yipes. We also found some more suspension issues after taking off some of the skids. It need a lot, but yeah…what a rare one!

Which is why I asked if it was fully insured!
