Hah gotcha, yeah mine is heavy and black. I'm sure it will soften up after one day in this NC heat. Yeah, I like the Prinsu rack, it's how I would've designed something. Really well built and modular. Definitely not threadjacking, the design of the tent and rail are pretty integral with how I'm...
Yeah, true. I just am not a fan of the welded mount plates for the ladder either. But, alas, I haven't even used it yet. I'm just a stickler for details and like over-engineering things. True enough, it wouldn't be an issue as long as it doesn't rub that cover raw. I'm actually liking that it...
Yeah, that's what I'm currently considering. Or even making some kind of big fridge slider that just has two rails that can hinge onto the four "beams" that would come up from the front and back of the rack. I'm also think about aerodynamics which is why I was curious to hear different mounting...
Picked up a 17' Grumman canoe this weekend. The Prinsu rack worked awesome and no problems with stability even at 70mph. Very impressed. Researching ways to be able to fit the Tepui and the canoe. I have a couple ideas. First thing is to get it cleaned up and see if it floats hah
Oh that looks cool, but no I'll be traveling with someone and already have my Tepui Kukenam Ruggedized 3 person. It isn't small. It's the same width as the rack and will leave 2ft of open length depending on where it is installed
Yep, second option. I didn't specify, I didn't mean actually resting on the tent, I meant being suspended, but directly above it. Yeah its probably a good 80/85lbs. Was either figuring a support that could raise it slightly above forward and rear, or I'm liking the thought of the offset mount...
Thanks for the tips. Yeah, I was going to look at either a better system for quick detaching/attaching the ladder, or mounting the canoe over the tent at an angle. It will be folding out to the side of the vehicle. I did see an offset Thule mount while driving on the highway yesterday that gave...
Got the Garmin GLO tonight and successfully completed a proof of concept. Even indoors in my kitchen, it was picking up over 10 satellites with great signal. It connected to my Samsung S2 flawlessly and I used the Bluetooth GPS App to provide mock locations. On my downloaded section of Google...
I did a preliminary search to see if anyone has done it, but didn't find much. I have a Tepui Kukenam Ruggedized that will be going on my 4th gen 4runner with a Prinsu rack. Will also be looking at a 17' Grumman this weekend. Wondering if there are any ideas circulating on how to get it all to...
Probably going to depend on how strong the signal is, but likely on an anti-skid up on the middle of the dash. I already have a suction cup base there from the previous owner's GPS. Would just route the cable down the the USB socket that will be right below the Ram mount.
As an aside, also updated my cell to be a little redundant with GPS and maps, etc. Best Buy had unlocked Samsung S8 for a pretty good deal. It's a bit of an upgrade to my much loved S5 haha
I also received the Samsung S2 tablet and the Ram mount system for the 4runner. Very happy with both. Got a great deal on the tablet refurbed on Ebay and it looks and performs brand new.
The mount seems extremely high quality and really stable. The 6in arm will get it closer to the driver seat...
The tent showed up a couple weeks early! Extremely relieved to see the shipping box was in good condition and no apparent damage or missing materials. Had to take the time to test run it in the living room :D
The included hardware and mounting rails left much to be desired for, especially right...
No, the rack is reallly low profile. You can do it, but not easily. My better option is I ordered 2 additional bars from Prinsu and I'll leave them permanently on the tent. Then, I'll lower it in between the existing rails and just bolt it in from the sides. I want to take the tent off after its...
I can't speak to storage for Gaia downloads as I've never done it, but as far as tidiness, I'm planning on a charging cable for the tablet running into a custom USB mount and the popular pucks/external GPS are all wireless...this will be my setup I'm copying (borrowed from T4R.org). I wanted SD...
Cool to see this community is active around Hurricane Creek. I'm still building my rig, but the lift is next on the list and am looking at potential spots to break it in.
I'll likely carry along the guy on the far left of my little collection there...it fires up in two pulls and it is meannnn. Do yourself some research on the Pro Mac series if you aren't familiar and try to pick one up from a garage sale cheap. That saw was sitting in a guys shed for almost...
Not sure if it was already posted in the thread, but I ran into this on the website I got my rack from. Thought it would be awesome to toss my old Pro Mac 10-10 in. I'm not sure if I'll be taking the old heavy metal saw along on most trips, but thought this was a nice accessory for tossing it...
Narrowing down how I'll be doing navigation. With some help from members here and some research on the youtubes, I'll try running a Galaxy S2 tablet with Gaia Premium and a 256gb SD card, a Garmin GLO GPS unit, and a Galaxy S8 for redundancy. Will also try mounting the S2 with a ProClip and a...
Yeah, for these guys I'm hoping for about 7 days of use opening/closing as minimally as possible. Thankfully, some of the accessories for them are cutting boards/covers that can go over the segmented areas as well. Between that and segregating one cooler for bulk storage and one maybe for just...
