Is the Overlanding community killing itself

Heading into my mid-60s, age wise, and having only owned one IFS vehicle in my life, I get too relaxed on the road with them and tend to overreact. For whatever reason, well I am sure it is due to habit, I like SFA even on highways.

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

    P. T. Barnum is reputed to have said "There is a sucker born every minute." Of course, there is a debate as to whether he said it or not, but that doesn't matter for this thread. It is true, whoever said it, and well, so what? There is one certainty with our species...technology rolls on. I am...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

I imagine I am older than most on here and here are a few observations with regards to comments made since my last comment on this thread. Having seen the advent of color TV, then Cable, then Central Air and Heating, then pagers on to cell phones and then the advent of personal computers and...

    2020 Rubicon Gladiator Build

I recently purchased a 2023 Gladiator Rubicon and one of the first things I did was replaced the factory battery system with the Genesis Dual Battery System so I would not have that particular issue. I have heard that complained about more than anything else with the Gladiators.

    2023 Gladiator Rubicon new build.

Last month picked up a new 2023 Gladiator Rubicon 3.6. First things first. I knew I was going to be close to gross max weight so the suspension was the first thing ordered and installed. I went with the Dobinson's 3-inch heavy duty lift with all the components. The 3-way shocks, the heaviest...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

I agree with your father's sentiment. One thing has changed, now a days you can find more native fish out west in remote areas. There has been a great comeback for many of the cutthroat species and now in many areas you are encouraged to keep invasive species, typically brook trout in the blue...

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

I actually have a couple of old Orvis split bamboo flyrods teamed up with old Hardy reels that live in my vehicle for those "just in case" moments when I am out and about.

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

Me, a long time ago, getting ready to separate the momma cows and their calves. I had to post this in response....lol. This is circa 1985 or there about. I am the one in the hat.....

What is the last thing you bought and plan to buy?

A brand new 2023 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon to start a new build and will be putting a deposit down on an Alu-Cab Canopy Camper tomorrow. Ordered a Long Range America Aux Fuel tank, Heavy duty Dobinson's suspension, and a number of other items for the Gladiator.

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

It is what it is. Nobody "has to have" anything more than a vehicle that can get them to where they want to go and the ability to eat and sleep once they get there. I personally do not think that "overlanding" means the same thing to everyone. I do not even think what I do is so much...

    Tatanka / 20 Chevy ZR2 Bison

Nice build, have a JT Rubicon ordered that I am going the Alu-Cab Canopy Camper route on. Sadly I do not think I will be able to get it in at your costs.....

Let’s be honest; Roof Top Tent- Yay or Nay?

I literally live in a swamp...I was standing maybe 75 ft from my front door when I took this picture.

Let’s be honest; Roof Top Tent- Yay or Nay?

I reckon it all depends on where you live. I live in south Georgia, where humidity, tropical storms, hurricanes and rain and then more rain is an issue. I would be concerned with mildew during the summer when it rains and nothing really dries out for days...I see you live in Virginia Beach, at...

    Any Hunters Among Us?

I hear ya. Funny how using your vehicle to get to out of the way places for hunting and camping is now called overlanding. Back in the day, just called it a hunting trip.

    Has overlanding become elitist ?

I do not think it is the gear you have that defines what you do. Back when I was in my late teens and early 20s (late 1970s and early 1980s) I would have maybe....and I mean maybe, 50 dollars worth of gear for an extended trip and spend days upon days without ever seeing asphalt or another...

JKU Rear Seat Delete - Storage Platform

It seems like you have the Goose Gear rear plate system. Did you construct your system to match up with the predrilled holes in the Goose Gear Plates?

    Another JKU 2009

Nice build, I do have a question though. I see most fridge/freezers mounted on the driver's side in the rear, I noticed yours appears to be on the passenger side, I also noticed you have a let down table, at least it appears, on your tailgate. So what led you to mount your fridge on the...

Ursa Minor J30. Pros and Cons from those who have or have had one.

I own a 2018 JKUR that I love, it is the best vehicle for exploring for MY needs, wants and areas of interest. Since the day I ordered my Jeep I have been debating whether I want the Ursa Minor J30. I have seen some threads on social media where they are discussed, they all seem favorable, but...

Let’s be honest; Roof Top Tent- Yay or Nay?

A very interesting thread, to say the least. I was a little disappointed with one aspect of it as one who owns and uses a 2018 JKUR as my vehicle to explore in. The disappointment is that nobody who posted mentioned the Ursa Minor J30, which is what I am on the fence about when it comes to...

    Spot, Flood or Diffused

There is an old axiom, "You get what you pay for." When I was younger I was always looking for deals simply because money was tight. In the end, 9 times out of 10, I would end up eventually trading my "deal" out for the more expensive item I should have purchased in the first place. While your...
