As soon as I saw the pic of the Taco pop up I was like, there goes the Colorado and trailer! lol
October will kill almost all of your CO route, especially the stuff in the south west (Ouray) part of the state. A lot of those trails get snowed in starting in early Sept.
That is what the...
Looks like this will be an amazing trip. Over on Expedition Portal they have a Retired Old Farts group that does a lot of trips together. Here lately I've been thinking there needs to be a Chase The Light photographer's group someplace. Where the trips are similar to what you are planning...
The good old papermill! Luckily I only had to smell it when we went back to visit family. We lived in Nashville and Camden when I was in grade school. My dad and his family all still live in and around Nashville.
Thanks @Bouncer It's been a fun build and should continue as I rework it for overlanding. Shoot me your trip plans and we'll see if we can hit a trail or two when you are out here.
The Jeep had Goodyear 35" DuraTracs on it when we bought it. I liked them a lot, but when I stepped up to 37x13.5", I switched to the Toyo Open Country RT and have loved them.
@Texarado , thanks man. Woodland Park is a nice little town and there are several trails right around there as well. When you guys make it up here, let me know and I'd be happy to take you on some. On a side note, I did my high school years in Wolfe City TX, just north of Greenville...
This bring my build up to about the end of the rock crawling phase and from this point forward I'll be doing mods that will make it more of an overlanding style Jeep. In future installments of this build thread I'll cover the Gobi roof rack and Odin Designs RTT that are already installed. I'll...
I also gave the front axle some love this spring...
Artec gussets and Nitro sleeves
All of that was done to stuff some 37" Toyo Open Country R/Ts under it...
After the 37s went on, I had some slight rubbing issues in the rear...
I replaced the 2" Rancho bump...
I got the sPOD installed over the weekend between the little guy's Bday and the wife's Bday. Still not sure how I managed to pull that one off!
My son also asked me if we could make the Jeep look cool to go to his Bday party in. He wanted the top off and the tube doors on, how could I...
By removing the Rubicon decals from the hood at the start of all this theming, I was kind of bummed that nowhere else on the Jeep did it say that it was a Rubicon. Transferring the door button idea to the inside, I made these door latch tabs.
I have a few friends that also have Jeep...
With more and more trails being ran every summer, it was time to address airing down and back up while out there. For the first part of this operation I decided to go with Trailhead Deflators. They are small, simple to use and look the part.
When it comes to air in the tires, what goes out must...
The below build thread has been composed and posted on a Jeep site over the last several years. Some of the wording and timing might be a little off, but I wanted to share the build here as well since I'm now gravitating to the Overland style of things....
When you live at the foot of the Rocky...
@Smileyshaun and @Zerobird, thanks.
@Kalikianō, Metberry is the only one of the three I have not ran. Hackett used to be kind of tough, but the last time I was on it (2 years ago now I think) they have filled in the tough spots and full size stock trucks were all the way at the bottom of it...
@Fortis44, I understand a longer trip might not be possible for everyone, but I'd have no issues with people coming late or leaving early. We would just need to coordinate times and locations to meet up out there. I've also been wanting to do the Dinosaur National Monument. I've seen some...
Just starting to think out loud about doing a multiday to week long trip around the middle of June. I've spent many of weeks in the Ouray area and am always keen to go back, but I've never explored the north west part of the state and that could be really interesting as well.
Anyone interested...
Thanks for the welcome @Chadlyb and @Joseph Solin .
@Kalikianō , Hitting the some trials this summer would be fun. Have you ran many and what is your trail comfort level? Also, are you planning on going down to Overland Expo West in May?
Thanks @1Louder . I pulled Bullfrong up on the internet and it is listed as free dispersed, first come first served camping. Google maps shows it as just a couple of campsites on some side dirt roads. That should be find for what we need that night.
