@Pazuzu1991 Sounds great! I know the mechanics, and framing. It is always the lighting that kills me. (Lots of examples in my western trip last fall.) Go ahead and do a write up, and we can move it to the Overland Boot Camp article contribution forum. Then Michael can review it and put it in the...
Here's our Tommy Bahama from BJ Wholesale Club, along with a no-name bag table I got probably 20 years ago.
Speaking of tables, I also have a huge ALPS Mountaineering Guide Table that I got off of a daily steals place for half price. 22" X 61" top, and adjustable to three different heights...
My concern with the ARB type chairs is the aluminum arm rests. Those have to get scorching hot in the SW sun! Same with the ones with dark hard plastic arm rests.
Welcome back, @stringtwelve! I'll be interested to see what folks suggest.
On our travels, we used two cheap Wal-Mart bag chairs, due to having no extra room after all our daughter's crap. We used the same when going to Florida. After those two trips, with the chairs in the roof basket, the...
Not just soccer moms! Take a peek at @FozRoamer's Forester, or any number of the rides on the Offload Subarus Facebook page. They are very capable vehicles.
Looks good. I really like the idea of using chicken coop flooring for a platform!
Are you sure? That's only 0.015" wall tube, or about 3-4 sheets of paper.
Used my REI Member 20% off!
This is where the Omaha Steaks Styrofoam cooler normally lives when we are out exploring.
It works, but the hinges limit opening a bit vs the loose lid. We knew that before ordering, though.
It fits much better back here!
A perfect match!
(But...
Hey gang,
Michael (@administrator) spent the weekend getting the home page and forum secured from a hack. As of early this morning, it looks as if almost everything is back as it was. Any posts made yesterday on the temporary backup may be missing, so if you created a new post or replied to an...
We need photos! :)
You are doing very much what Deb and I do on our exploring, which is some of why I suggested that you check out Overland Bound. You'll fit in here just fine.
I outfitted my Outback with the same intended use as your 4Runner...
Welcome! We took a trip from Ohio to WA, OR, WY, SD, etc last fall, and crossed the trail several times. We saw the obelisk to the only casualty, and the disappointing end of trail marker stone in a city park somewhere. I look forward to your journey.
Note that I edited a typo in your link (and...
That's really a great car for that, as the Model T was designed for the unpaved roads of America. That's why it had large tires with a lot of plys, and wooden spokes for flexibility. There's a fair bit of ground clearance, and it is geared low with a lot of grunt. The gas tank is gravity feed...
That's pretty interesting. I think if I were to make something like that, I'd seal the tubes completely and use ethylene glycol. Water freezes at 32° F, salt water at 28°F, and ethylene glycol at 9°F. So the tubes would be "colder" right out of your freezer.
