There are places to go around Texas. These are shots from three recent trips with @emulous74 @Mrprotaganist and others in east Texas and the hill country. Most of these are county or FS roads.
I used an X Grip for my tablet and just drilled holes. The disk to the right of my OB emblem is a rare earth magnet that I can capture my phone with via a steel disk on the case.
Are you planning to move your spare tire? Leaving it under the tongue will let you find all kinds of high spots you never thought of. I tried that once on my teardrop, and drug the tire across the sidewalk getting out of my driveway.
Lots of home builders are even tackling slide outs for teardrops these days. I don’t know that it’s the weak point you’re concerned with.
I built a 5x10 tear 12 years ago. I didn’t have overlanding in mind, but did have boondocking (dispersed) camping in there when my kids and I built her...
I have a 1/2 wave antenna for 2 meters because it’s not very picky about a ground plane. I used that one on multiple vehicles.
For exposure, consider you won’t be transmitting much of the time. Don’t ignore it, but consider your operating habits.
You mentioned interference between antennas above. This is my current configuration. Th3 stubby is connected to a dual band Icom 2730. The center antenna is a 2meter quarter wave for a single band 2m icom. The rear antenna is a Larsen 10m that I sometimes use for CB. That position is a...
There will be some, but maybe not as much as you think, in the forward direction. However, the windshield frame will impact the performance in other directions with that stubby antenna.
How far are you trying to communicate? Also what terrain and obstacles will you likely encounter?
I have a very short dual band stubby, that is broad enough to go up into GMRS frequencies. I’ve used it to talk 5 miles, enough to communicate within a convoy. It’s mounted on the roof of my rig.
Thanks for posting that. I wasn’t thinking about a clunky website, lol.
I’ve never had an issue with in person purchases, but have never tried this online.
Nice rig. Mine’s not quite that old.
Btw, we’ve had a couple of weekend trips up your way recently. Camping at both Oxford ranch and sulphur springs. Lots of dirt roads out there. @Mrprotaganist @Roots66
