Roof Rack: First hand experiences with Prinsu, FrontRunner, or K9 Wanted

To come back and close out this thread, today I ordered a Prinsu full-length rack using the 15% off group buy through T4R.org. I also bought a Gobi ladder on a similar group buy, so I should be all set for roof top storage and access. Thanks for the input, @vicali, @PDXplorer, and @pierceg! Steve

Rooftop Access Ladder: Use it, or a waste of money?

Good timing! T4R.org had a Gobi group buy going, with the ladder, replacement hatch struts, and free shipping for $200. I just place my order an hour ago. Thanks for the input, folks! Steve

    mase001's 2016 4Runner Trail build

@mase001 I thought I was reading my own build thread (linked in my sig) at first! Same intentions and same first step. The TEP w/KDSS is already extraordinarily capable, and I don't anticipate needing suspension or protection changes. If I find a need to replace or improve, *then* I'll make a...

Goal Zero Yeti 400 Solar Generator Experience?

The Anker Powerhouse 400 has a 120Ah lithium-ion battery vs. the Goal Zero Yeti's 35 Ah for a similar price. And Anker's solar panels are quite a bit less expensive. Here's a review I found recently: http://expeditionportal.com/ankers-new-powerhouse-brings-serious-competition-for-goalzero/

Self Rescue / When all else fails...

That's what my Xtracycle conversion works great at; carrying lots of stuff. Wide tires and low gearing make most loads tolerable. I also have a Burley folding trailer that I converted to a flatbed trailer. I've carried four bags of much without problems. I had three 80 pound bags of soil on it...

    Forester XT build - Overland/Bugout

I sure don't think the tail light wiring will take the load that a light bar is drawing. You risk melting insulation and fire! Even the 12V outlet might not be enough. What's the amp draw on the LED light bar? Then compare that to the fuse for the tai lights and 12V outlet. Just urging caution.

    Rock climbing/ Bouldering

I have never tried rock climbing other than scrambling while on hikes. Our daughter does the indoor stuff in Seattle. September 2015, while on our first cross-country trip, we spent a day hiking at Smith Rock State Park, in Oregon. What an amazing place, and the Mecca of rock climbers...

    Alasaka Bound

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, as we are also retired, and this is a trip we'd like to take. Curious why you don't plan to go any further north into Alaska? Several years ago, we did a 14 day cruise/rail trip, leaving Vancouver, sailing to Anchorage, flying to Fairbanks, and then the...
