I've been wanting to ask someone doing one of these conversions. For the 4x4 components, is it as simple as finding the front end, transfer case and drive shafts from a donor F350 pickup?

Harbor freight or your local auto parts store has them. Usually a set of 4-5 pieces in nylon. maybe $20.

You’re probably running into similar things I’ve found with my Tahoe. A bumper is a bumper, right? On the pickups the bumper and grill are separate parts. On the Tahoe not so much. I could very likely do a bumper for the 1500 pickup, but I’d need a grill too, so it’s listed as not compatible.

I concur on Lake Meredith as a stopping point. the campgrounds are nice, and free to boot.

Don’t go after significant rain fall the stream crossings are subject to flash flooding. A few days after some decent rain, and many of the roads will be a bit muddy And the dust is still down.

I drive a Police Tahoe. Lowered 2 inches from standard models, and 2wd. It’s no problem.
