    Steve & Deb's 2017 Cross-Country Wandering

Day 4, and we are in Rapid City, South Dakota. We are meeting up with @Daniel Etter this evening, then exploring Custer State Park, Iron Mountain and Needles Highways tomorrow. And maybe Wind Cave National Park. Here's a public link to our current daily location (assuming we have wifi.)...

    Steve & Deb's 2017 Cross-Country Wandering

There's always the return trip! We've talked about going up through Duluth and across the top of Lake Superior for a trip. And we'll have our passports. Ya never know!

    Steve & Deb's 2017 Cross-Country Wandering

We're getting things ready, and anything I was going to do to the 4Runner is either done or not getting done until we return. Really, the only thing on the list was installing the front camera and the module to make it work with the backup camera. That's not critical. The fridge has been...

Overland Clothing...not necessarily the branded overpriced stuff.

If you got the good ones, they are mostly merino wool, and shouldn't need to go in the dryer. We just hang them over the towel rack to dry after washing on delicate. I have about six pairs, Deb about the same, and daughter probably more. They are the *only* socks I wear any more. I wear the thin...

    Trophies, Badges, and Ranks!

Yes, sporadically. You might notice that Michael is the only member who has been awarded anything from the Innovator and Challenger tracks. And that several of the badges in the Pathfinder track have not been defined. This is a back burner project for Michael, and only gets new badges added...

Steve’s 2016 Toyota 4Runner Modification and Adventure Thread

Yes, and no. If you look at last evenings post, you will see that I put in two sets of six tee-nuts on the bottom of the plywood platform. That way, I can remove six bolts, move the slide to one of the two positions, and put the bolts back in. The frontmost position has the slide right up...

Steve’s 2016 Toyota 4Runner Modification and Adventure Thread

I'm not doing any armor until and unless I get to a point where whats on it now proves inadequate. That's my philosophy on suspension, too. Bed liner is a possibility. I want to use this trip to see how I use it and then decide. After we return, I'll check with Ryan and maybe put the plans in...

Here's the Tembo Tusk Jumbo slide with the National Luna 90 Twin installed. I have it on 110V cooling down. It fits and works great, but takes up a lot of the 4Runner's cargo space! We leave on our next cross-country trip in three days, so I'll post pictures somewhere other than our driveway soon!

Steve’s 2016 Toyota 4Runner Modification and Adventure Thread

Today I received the Tembo Tusk Jumbo Front-Pull Fridge Slide from Jerry. He didn't even have all the parts until six days ago, and it arrived late this afternoon. Once I knew the bolt pattern for the slide, I disassembled the platform that @Ryan Matthes sent me the plans for, installed tee...

Steve’s 2016 Toyota 4Runner Modification and Adventure Thread

I bought the monocrystaline panel, as that's what Amazon had in the starter lit at the best price. I know barely anything about solar, so I wanted to get started relatively cheaply. The panel is mounted, and I'm bringing the wires and charge controller with me, but will only buy a deep cycle...

Steve’s 2016 Toyota 4Runner Modification and Adventure Thread

As far as wind noise goes, it is much much quieter than my Thule crossbars and Yakima LoadWarrior basket with the same lightbar and awning mounted. That's the main reason I switched. Deb and I had to practically yell at each other going 65 MPH into a 40 MPH headwinds last fall in Kansas! With...

What do you use to store all your gear?

A lot of us use the Plano 1918 and 1919 and Rubbermaid ActionPacker. Others use Pelican, Alubox, and other higher priced options. Here are some existing storage box threads: Plano Cases Waterproofing the Plano Sportsman box Rubbermaid Actionpacker vs Plano Sportsman's Trunk (Review) Roof top...

    Our Original Overland vehicles

Our search is not the easiest to get what you want out of it. Plus, I've been here since day one, and remember too much crap. In this case, "First" didn't work in search, because it is too common. So I searched for FIAT with the author as me, since I knew I'd posted in them. That did the trick.
