    Suggestions for easy trails

I'd be interested to hear as well. Most of the trails I know in our area are a bit more challenging. I have some buddies that want to Overland with us, but are in less capable rigs (stock pickups, even a big transit van). If you're willing to drive a bit one that is pretty easy and super...

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

Hit it with some rust-proofing primer, then my snazzy basically body-color-matched rattle-can: (it actually looks better than the pics show... but I also don't care because nobody will ever see it, I just don't want it to rust. I also used the primer then just some black...

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

Remember the front end used to look like this: But that crash-bar needed cutout to be replaced by this: With the cooling stack out of the way I could lay the condensor up and use a sawzall, making it much easier than using the death-wheel as per the instructions. I nailed it...

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

Not sure why I'm posting this stuff, since it's alllllllllll going to come back apart, but hey I took the pics, so why not I guess? Putting the ATI on... drove the damper on with the specific install tool (just a pretty general Chrysler balancer installer) first. Then had to figure out...

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

Well, I've been holding off making this post because it's both embarrassing and humbling, but here it is: I f@wked something up real good. I got it all back together mechanically (front clip still largely off, starting the winch install) and got fluids in it and went to give it a test fire. I...

What to do In the off season.

Oct-March or thereabouts is my Glamis season. It's outdoors, and it's camping, but it's a very different thing vs. Overlanding. Perhaps part of the reason I'm so drawn to Overlanding is Glamis is MUCH more complicated and MUCH more of a production. I've gone through various toy haulers, RVs...

    What do YOU consider "capable"?

In arriving at NO answer I think we've arrived at THE answer: the definition of "capable" will be different for each of us. -TJ

2WD Truck New to Overlanding - Challenges you have had?

2WD Truck New to Overlanding - Challenges you have had?

My WJ has a full-time 4wd transfer case (for now) so I can't say what it will or won't do in 2wd. My truck thought allows selecting 2wd and has done tons of "overland" miles off pavement in 2wd. You can get out and enjoy a lot, and with a good line and rear locker get further than I bet you...

    Announcement of All Electric Hummer

Yes, I KNOW you would... you are the 1 Rivian buyer that would. And I do mean ONE. -TJ

    Announcement of All Electric Hummer

I think the % that go off-road will be even lower than current capable 4x4s. Wranglers probably have the "best" % of usage off-road, but it's still waaaaaaaaaaaaay lower than it "should" be (I mean, why buy a Wrangler if you're NOT going off-road). I'd say stuff like the current Grand Cherokee...

Yup... but how many people will actually offroad this (or a Rivian) anyway? -TJ

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

8 of these guys showed up too: And the upper radiator mounts that I had forgotten to order, and forgot to pull off the old radiator (I made a dump run the weekend before last so I had taken the old rad... I wanted new ones anyway but couldn't get the quickly enough - of course I was held-up...

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Build

I've had Melissa un-boxing stuff as it shows up and sending me pics so I could be SURE I had all the parts to put the damn thing together this weekend. It finally looks like all the parts are here. Correct-size pulley for the ATI: What they originally sent on the left, what I just got...
