Re-name The Jeep Cherokee And Grand Cherokee....

Can't fit 40s? Dang. I better tell John: (Yes, I know it's an MJ, but it is pretty much the same game.)

Re-name The Jeep Cherokee And Grand Cherokee....

Perfect!! Matt at "Bleepin Jeep" (Youtube channel built primarily around the XJ) has stickers for us XJ owners: a pile of dung emoji on a wooden crate, meant to evoke the common nickname for an XJ--"$h1tbox".

Re-name The Jeep Cherokee And Grand Cherokee....

Does this mean I am going to have to quit referring to my white XJ as "Miz. Warren"? In a sense I can't blame the Indian tribe. The Jeep Cherokee is nowhere near as capable and respectable as it used to. The JK & JL 4-doors have taken over the niche the Cherokee used to fill, and now the...

New ford bronco capabilities. Is jeep in big trouble?

Jeep's problem is not the Bronco. Jeep's problem is Stellantis. Jeep is now Fiat, Puegot and Citroen. Yippee. My bet is that Jeep is on the same path that Jaguar went on when Ford took over. Boredom will ensue. Give it a decade. Maybe more because the brand itself is fairly strong. But...

    What Stage Are You?

Prius. Go for it. One of the transmitter hunting guys had a Prius. He hacked the computer system so he could get better traction control. He swore the smooth undercarriage worked great getting over things. He did just fine with it out in Anza Borrego. Better than the guy with a 2wd Jeep WJ...

What is your favorite overland/camp stove?

I like my Coleman white gas stoves. I have several of the suitcase style, but the one that probably gets the most use is my Peak 1. The compact size makes it a winner.

Overlanding and Outdoor Cartoons....out of my mind.

You just needed to offer to paint it: That is myself and Varmint #2 painting a 40' ham tower for a friend. Varmint #2 was about 10 years old at time.

Overlanding and Outdoor Cartoons....out of my mind.

You are having way too much fun!! You need a T-shirt that Varmint #2 likes: "7 days without a pun makes one weak."

    Overlanding with a large family

I forgot the two biggest problems the Suburban has ever given us: Fuel pump and crankshaft position sensor. It earned a tow truck ride for each of those. Still cost less than tires. No predicting when a CPS will go out. Fuel pumps really appreciate it if you will replace the fuel filter on...

    Goodyear to buy Cooper Tires

I am happy with my Falkens too. Just had the set on my XJ re-balanced. Very little change. And they have taken a beating on some rocky trails. Hardly any chunking. Just a couple slight chunks--like 3/16" x 3/16" x 3/8".

    Overlanding with a large family

About 75K. It was in very nice condition. Although somehow a piece of plastic trim for the roof rack was missing. Probably swiped by a car wash. It wasn't hard to get a replacement from the dealer. It has required very little maintenance. I have had to replace a couple of servos that...

    Overlanding with a large family

It is a 2002. Around town we get 10-11mpg. Freeway it will get 12, and very occasionally 13mpg. My first car was an Oldsmobile wagon with a 455, followed by a square body Suburban with a 454. Those both got about 8 mpg. So I am pretty happy to have moved up to a 496 and up into double digit...

Okay. Whole 'nuther ball game. 1. Coleman Peak 1 stove 2. Black Diamond LED lantern/flashlight 3. Estwing Hammer 4. 4 Sevens Maelstrom flashlight 5. Adventure Tool Company wool blanket 6. Cold Steel knife/flint 7. Kenwood TM-V71A dual band radio 8. Frostbite Cooler 9. Laphroig 10 yr...

whats your top 10 pieces of gear?

You may need to try again with some more clarity as to what you are after. When you say only ten items that kind of puts things in a post-apocalyptic scenario. If that is not what you are going after then you need to explain. Perhaps "Your top ten favorite pieces of gear" would be closer to...

whats your top 10 pieces of gear?

Like? I didn't say I like them. But if we are looking for essentials they fit the bill.

whats your top 10 pieces of gear?

Okay. If we assume we have the vehicle itself taken care of and we are now taking care of me, that makes it much easier. 1. Spare wool socks 2. Good jacket 3. Sleeping bag 4. Combination water bottle/filter 5. Cold Steel knife/flint striker 6. Loaded pistol/ammo 7. Good sized hank of 550...

    What Stage Are You?

Reminds me of something I was told by Gary Hooker: At one point you could order a Mopar muscle car with a set of Hooker Headers. They came in the trunk--because that was the only place they would fit. Gary explained that Mopar's tolerances for engine mounting in those days were multiple...

whats your top 10 pieces of gear?

Are we assuming the vehicle already has such things as jumper cables, spare tire, jack, lug wrench, extra quart of oil, extra gallon of anti-freeze, gallon of water for people or car, spare belt, spare radiator hoses, spare fuses, tool kit and a fire extinguisher? Because if not, I am not going...

    Overlanding with a large family

Wait until the gas prices get higher. Seriously. I bought our Suburban in the summer of 2008 when gas was $5/gallon. 3/4 ton, 8.1L, 4x4 behemoth that sat on a dealership used lot for months. They were asking $14K for it. Originally sold (6 years before) for $44K. I kept calling the...

    Overlanding with a large family

We are a family of 5. If we are all going on a trip then it is the Suburban. If The Bride is not going then the Varmints and I can fit in the Jeep Cherokee ('96 XJ). Note that the Suburban comes with a weight penalty, and once you get off pavement weight matters more. OTOH, it is a much more...
