Don’t get j to the cost of license as part of the debate between ham and GMRS... GMRS is $7/ year or $70/10 year.... HAM is between free and $50 for life... so say you pay for a ham cram and exam for $100, 10 years later you submit your callsign for renewal and get your new license in the mail...
I totally agree with this... last summer I got huge blisters on my feet only 2 miles in on a 24 mile hike... ruined the rest of the hike... I ended up camping in one spot for the whole weekend letting my feet heel. My feet hurt so bad the only comfort I found was in my camp sandals... I ended up...
So... BIG Question... what was in the “Coms Bible” that pertains to Overlanding? Even though this publication is new this year, nothing has changed since the introduction of the SINGAR, other than BFTI and BFTII... now people want to get on me because they say APRS has no use for Overlanders...
GMRS 15 can be accessed via the cheap Walmart 22 Chanel FRS radios... and actually works quite well... not the best, but good enough that when on the road I have done this method in the past.

When wheeling with groups in simplex I notice one of us forgets to use our call sign but another one of us reminds the rest by saying his call sign during his banter, then the rest fallow suit...
What Radio in question? And what antenna?.... my All Band radio has a built in tuner. Your tuner looks just like my CB tuner... that I use for 2m and 70cm tuning. For the rest of the bands I use a MFJ-949E... I find even on my homemade antennas, that if built to spec I have very little if any...

Had a Jeep... well 29 to be exact but who’s counting... had several Toys as well... I had an 85 Bronco II just after high school, and another 89 B2 a few years later... now on my 1st FSB, and I love it.... I will never go back to Jeep... after my experience with a ‘16 wrangler nope not doing...
