Why are there so few Silverado overland rigs?

Hi MOAK I'm new here and not as experienced as many others. However, as far back as 1979, my brother, father and I would all hop into my fathers 4x2 ford pickup. It was a full sized pickup an f150 or they maybe even called it a ranger back then. So not to argue, but my point is that we went...

Why are there so few Silverado overland rigs?

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned th Chevy Trail Boss. When I saw the Trail Boss announced and saw it at the dealer, I though: this is what all 4x4 trucks used to be, right out of the box. I already have a truck so o cant buy a trail boss, although I really want to because I dont want...

    Sierra Build up

RAZOR, KYLE Nice rides!. I have a burgundy '14 double cab. At first I removed the tonneau and placed a cross tool box in the back. But a year later, I was still missing the lockable rear storage of my old K5 Blazer, so I got a used Leer cap. RAZOR, I like the skid plate and the tow mirrors. I...

I am planning a trip from Michigan to Seattle along i90, Tips?

That's what is happening to me. RJ pointed me through Canada as an alternate route. So I took stock, and started writing down all the places to see along my 3 possible routes. Now I know I wont get to see them all in the two weeks I've got, but at least I have a running list for next time

Help! Do I need a truck?

I kinda like the GMT900 Tahoe, as it really is the closest thing to my GMT 400 big Blazer 2-door. Just that it has 4 doors. I havent gotten a Tahoe, though, I chose a 14 GMC Sierra Z71, 5.3 liter engine, double cab, 6 5 foot bed instead. The Avalanche was found on both the GMT800 and the GMT 900...

Help! Do I need a truck?

My dad had a 87 Ford when I was a kid. I got a 1990 Chevy short bed Cheyenne in the mid 90's. I'm not in the trades but I like to be able to haul of I want. When I got married I got a Pontiac, then a honda. Atone point I had to haul all the patio bricks, gravel and crushed stone powder to...

    Trail Security

The Center for Disease Control is now keeper of record for firearms violence? That's news to me. Not since the Dickey amendment of 1997. They do something similar, but not quite since they are technically not allowed to study that subject because they want medicine not to be political or...

I am planning a trip from Michigan to Seattle along i90, Tips?

RJ Sorry about the long post: Thanks for the suggestion, RJ, I really hadn't thought to go through Canada but looking at the map without national lines it's as good a route as any. How long in hours is that trip you outlined? As long as it fits into my time frame I listed below, I'll probably...

OB Approved Overlanding/Camping with a dog

My dog is a Beagle, so he is always on the hunt and may decide to ignore my my calls when in the field if I dont have a hunting gps collar on him (which I dont when I hike). So when i hike, i have a 15 - 20 foot rope i tied to a leash so he gets a fair amount of space but cant run off. I can...

I am planning a trip from Michigan to Seattle along i90, Tips?

PAINT, You have my attention. I plan to drive out to a place near Bozeman Montana from Boston in October. Never been past the Mississippi, though I have been to Chicago. I will follow this thread for sure, since a lot of the advice here may inform me as well, inasmuch as it relates east of the...

    Theory vs reality

In fairness, while I'm no stranger to hard work and what I believe is common sense, the linesman would probably regard me as a veritable goof at his work site. I know a commercial fisherman would. So common sense to them on thier boat, or at the electrical substation is different. Someone who...

    Theory vs reality

Kinda new here but I'm going to side with the other guy on here who pointed out that, what we now call the "Hi-Lift" WAS indeed the ONLY king of jack that came with most American made cars and trucks back in the day. Same kind of jack we had in our Chrysler station wagon and my dad's '78 Ford...

Hello everyone I'm from New England and have almost always had a pickup, big Blazer or even an old Grand Cherokee. Cant say as I've ever been an "Overlander", but I do love my road trips and hiking and truck-camping. Been on mostly camp and logging roads, and mainly east of the Mississippi...

    2018 Chevy Silverado build thread

I like this sort of simple setup. Most of what I do is road trips (1 or 2 thousand miles at a time) and truck-camping on camp or logging trails. My truck is stock at this point but my plan of for a mild but respectable lift, larger more aggressive tires. Probably go with that retro Cheyenne look...

    2018 Chevy Silverado build thread

JASON BAKER...your regular cab, short bed Silverado reminds me of the 1993 and 1994 full sized k1500 Blazers I had - and wish I still had! To me, the 90's full size Blazers are the most perfect production vehicle ever designed for this sort of thing. Big enough to sleep in and carry all my...
